^ I watch all the videos, and not just because of the cat (although that's certainly part of it ). I haven't seen that one yet though.

I follow this couple on YouTube for their Seoul videos, she is from Canada and he is from Korea and they are married and live in Seoul. So every summer they come and spend sometime in Canada, Halifax where she is from, well Dartmouth, Some of their videos give you a good look into Halifax, not really something I get too see too often. here is one of their latest ones.

Why Is This Mega-City In the Middle Of Nowhere?

Video Link

85,926 views 8 Nov 2025 #Edmonton #Canada #UrbanGeography
Why is there a million-person city in the middle of northern Canada?
Surrounded by forests, prairies, and pipelines, Edmonton looks like it shouldn’t exist where it does — yet it became one of the most important industrial and cultural centers in the country.

In this video, I explore how the North Saskatchewan River made the city possible, how the oil sands turned it into a powerhouse, why it’s so sprawling and wide, and what living through −40°C winters actually feels like.

From the refineries and rail yards to the river valley and skyline, this is the story of how Edmonton grew — and why it still thrives today.

This has something for everyone . Her description of the (guessing by the accents, Newfoundlanders) on the ferry crossing from Nova Scotia sounds no better than farm animals.

But their excitement in St. John's, of course, warms my heart.

Miles: Look at this street. Look at this damn street. I've wanted to come here all my life and we're finally here.
GF: He's crying, guys.

...

GF: I was saying it's interesting, we started in Victoria, which is like a seaside town. We're ending in a seaside town but it feels wildly different. I genuinely feel like I'm in a different country.
Miles: Newfoundland has felt like an island, I mean it's literally an island, but it's felt like an island away but this is just like, I mean, holy crap.
GF: You're not seeing this in Winnipeg.

Great drone video of the western part of Downtown Ottawa where we've seen significant growth over the last decade.

The re-cladding is making a huge impact. Looking really good so far.

decent skyline drone video of Hamilton, Ontario.
Lots of 30-34 storey residential or mixed-use towers recently built and more to come. These are not small buildings. Some have 300 units, 75 James (the multi tiered 34 storey shown on left of screenshot) has over 600!

Most of the video is overcast combined with odd electronic music is giving dreary almost Soviet-esque feeling vibes
The creator won't let me embed the video, unfortunately

Yeah, it's been amazing to watch downtown Hamilton transform and evolve before our eyes the past decade-ish

It's hard to comprehend how many highrises have been built or are under construction. The last time a building boom like this happened was what the 1970s?
The 2025 estimated population of the city of Hamilton is 640,465.

Yeah, I believe Hamilton is witnessing the most new high-rise construction in history. It seems like we break new building permit numbers each year.

There are lots of rumours swirling around that a new high-rise will be unveiled soon (bye bye Salvation Army building), perhaps the new tallest. It's part of a new entertainment district with the TD Coliseum group. Fingers crossed, Core Urban is part of the group; they have been killing it in Hamilton with top-quality builds; they are restoring the Coopley right now (again within the entertainment district).

If Core Urban is part of the group then we expect higher standards.

Got to watch the stagnation as a young adult, between 1980 and 2010 or so. This is a big change. It'll be great to continue to watch when the market inevitably turns to the positive again, but hopefully more rentals go up in the current building climate (and not just high-rises, as there are plenty of places where 6-8 floors would be very welcome).

His videos are very insightful, informative, and with beautiful photography.

There's no place in Canada with history like St. John's, Newfoundland

Not my city. Hopefully that isn't disqualifying.
