I would amend this to say affordable housing is not the PRIMARY responsibility of developers.
To say developers don't have ANY responsibility drifts dangerously close to Ken Zaifman territory; the attitude that "it's my property to hell with what the community wants".
We see a range of development models in this city, from governments working with non-profits, to public-private development projects to private-only projects.
IMO private developers have some responsibility to address the concerns of the community they do business in, and work towards shared goals, especially if the developer is receiving public incentives, whether it be direct funding, tax breaks, zoning adjustments or whatever.
