Today is a beauty, 3 with sun breaking through the fog, very spring like. Going up to 5 with some drizzle/rain.

Tomorrow will be a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 show, some kind of rain/freezing rain/ice pellet/snow event. Toronto is right on the border for all 4 scenarios so who knows. Impact will be early morning and throughout the day. Will be a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 show. Just when we thought it was done, we get pulled back in.

The good thing is that Friday is forecasted to be 3 and rainy, so hopefully it melts a good amount of whatever we get. Then, we get another (and hopefully last) blast of arctic air, pushing us back below -10 for a few days. After that, it looks like seasonal temps heading in to March

My biggest concern with our fake spring is that some trees and plants woke up, just to be frozen to death now. This is the reason so many types of trees don't survive here, a chinook wakes them up, then it's -20 a week later lol.

We are on 4th winter and 2nd spring.

15cm of snow overnight, 50kph winds right now and heavy snow. Should slow traffic down a bit. Just looking to see if my site meetings are postponed today.

The arctic air often shifts the whole storm track south, so areas that would get rain get snow in a band going down into the US, and areas that would get snow like NB get cold.

But I think the way these weather events get portrayed often reveals more about the norms in the places than anything else. The southerners in the US were losing their minds about what would be spring weather in a lot of Canada. In NS people have been talking about the severe winter, and the January cold snap was bad, but the average high/low for Halifax Dockyard were +0.6/-6.1. So not Miami but also not Alert. It's a bit unusual I think in that there has apparently been no major rain event for a month.

I do find it interesting to look at the winter forecasts for places like Atlanta which can have +20 one week and +5 the next, before essentially settling back into summer for 8 months a year.

We've had way above normal temperatures here although annoyingly they keep adding a -4 to the forecast so I keep having to look and see if I need to take my balcony plants in. Originally they were supposed to die in the winter, but they haven't yet, so I'm not going to let them now that they have survived to February.

The resolution is on country scale, so of course there will be some specific location outliers, but in general, yes, its true.

Guildford area of Surrey got a bit of snow but Whalley got no snow at all, there is a very visible line where the snow starts its kinda funny. Cold day though, apparently thursday will go as low as -4c.

Low of -1C (wind chill of -4) this morning.

The warmspot was White Rock, BC at 9.9C.

Warmest low was Discovery Island, BC at 4.0C.

Everything is closed again - even Metrobus is off the roads.

On my morning coffee run, a fire truck had to stop in the middle of the street to let firefighters out because their lot had too much snow. Drivers, at least, were crawling along - felt perfectly safe walking.

BUT - the highlight - in the coffee shop, it was just me, the two security guards, and a homeless man came in, dropped off his jacket on a chair, went back outside to shake the snow off his backpack and boots, and when he came back in, one of the security guards said, "Excuse me!" and walked over and I was thinking... FFS, b'ys, give him a break... but the guard just wanted to shake out the snow he missed in the back of his hoodie

We had about 2 cm of snow overnight (unrelated to the Newfoundland event). Enough to make the roads greasy and sloppy this morning.

Nasty today after reaching 8 yesterday. Around 3, a thick fog rolled in over the lake. Lots of moisture + dropping temps equals a gross brew of rain, ice and snow that's falling now.

Good thing is that the next few days will be above 0 and it looks like some rain, so should wash everything away before we dip back below freezing early next week.
