Edmonton Un-Built

I went searching for an Edmonton Unbuilt projects thread but couldn't find one although I did stumble across the Edmonton Future Skyline thread which I enjoyed reading back on.

I thought it would be good to compile all the major projects that never got built in Edmonton so I am starting this thread.

A few projects I'm aware of that I would like to see renderings of - I know Cold & others have posted some of these in the Construction thread over the years:

Commonwealth Square
- North side of 100 Ave. between 102 & 103 Streets.
- Proposed prior to 1984 by Campeau Corporation.
- $200,000,000.
- 40 storey office tower & 35 storey hotel/residential tower connected by 8-storey glass atrium.

Royal Centre
- South side of Jasper Ave. between 101 & 102 Streets.
- Proposed prior to 1984 by Princeton Developments, Royal Bank of Canada & The Edmonton Journal.
- $250,000,000.
- 40 storey office/hotel tower and 31 & 25 storey office towers on low-rise podium.

Eaton's Centre
- Between 102 & 103 Avenues and 101 & 103 Streets.
- Proposed prior to 1984 by Triple Five Corporation.
- $100,000,000.
- Office space (2M sf), 400-room hotel & two 50-storey apartment towers above a new Eaton's store & commercial/retail podium.

Patrician Office Tower
- Jasper Ave. between 100 & 101 Streets.
- Proposed prior to 1984 by Patrician Land Corporation.
- $50,000,000.
- 36 storey office tower on 2-storey commercial/retail podium.

Bowlen Office Tower
- North side of Jasper Ave. between 99 & 100 Streets.
- Proposed prior to 1984 by Carma Developers/Bowlen Holdings.
- $35,000,000.
- 28 storey office tower.

Hotel Macdonald
- Jasper Ave. 100 Street.
- Various proposals for office and/or residential tower(s) where the hotel annex once stood.

Manulife Phase 2
- South of 102 Ave. between 102 & 103 Streets.
- Original proposal for a triangular shaped tower and the more recent (2014ish) office tower proposal by AIMCO (see Edmonton Future Skyline thread).

That's all I got - have-at-er please - looking forward to seeing what gets posted.

Thanks.

Thanks for the links Cold - I find it fascinating to look back on the proposals through the lens of today. Really fun (and somewhat frustrating) to imagine how the city would have developed had the early ‘80s boom not gone bust.

It's something I look at regularly out of fascination and how different Edmonton could have been if even 2-3 of those had gone ahead.

I had the wrong street, but that was my impression as well.
