Hopefully this project has nothing to do with Schmuel Parkinglot Farhi

Looks like they have started on the west side pilings along the existing foundation of the hotel. Would imagine this will be more exacting to avoid damage and vibration to the hotel underground parking and foundation.

I see they have been approved by the city for the pouring of the foundation, is it a step process for approval?

Yes, part of the larger process. It means construction if the main structure can begin.

Interesting news about the conversion of some of the Hilton Hotels units to apartments. Next door the installation of the pilings for the excavation of the pit continues along the north side.

Drilling rig now installing the pilings in the SE corner of the lot. Could be wrapping up soon. Excavator has been digging the pit along the north side down to around 3m. Should see the tie back drilling machine installing those in prep for shoring and corner brace structural steel.

They have now dug down 3m along the south side of pit exposing the pilings. Drilling rig machine has been down in the pit drilling pilings along the west wall of pit up against the foundation of the underground parking of the hotel. Machine has been drilling into the pit wall to install the cable tie back anchors into the pit wall along the north and east side of pit that isn't blocked by the dirt ramp used to access the bottom of the pit.

When do we expect to see a crane up on this site?

Unless they plan to mount the tower crane base outside the foundation pit walls, I would think they will need to excavate the full 2s depth of the pit first and pour the tower crane base in the pit itself. Will be interesting to see where they setup the crane given how close the Delta and Doubletree Hotels stand. To swing the horizontal jib type of crane they will need to set it up taller then the two hotels. Or they might go with a luffing jib type used in tight spaces. They still have to dig the pit much deeper yet to clear two levels of underground parking and built a foundation. Probably looking at 7-8m deep all told.

The Caisson piling drilling rig machine has done its work and has been removed from the site. Focus will now shift to excavating the first 3m of the pit and installing the tie backs into the pit walls and installing shoring before digging out the next 3m of the pit.

There is no diagram of this building and it is not listed in the London database on SSP or in Wikipedia. I am not sure how one edits those pages but this building is u/c and will be London's 3rd tallest when complete at 109 metres tall.

Should see excavator and dump trucks soon to start digging out the final few meters of the pit as they appear to be nearly done installing the pit wall tie backs and shoring at the current depth.

Looks like Holloway Lodgings has decided to go with Magil Construction as the general contractor on this 35s build. Their signs are up all over the construction fencing now.

I suspect they are still digging the pit down to the final depth. Will then drill in the tie backs in the pit wall and install shoring eventually digging out the dirt ramp access. Curious to see where they end up locating the tower crane base for this build and which type of crane they use.
