Check it out; from an article on the CBC news website this morning:

"Construction has begun in earnest on the final component of the True North Square development, a Sutton Place hotel on Carlton Street, developer Northland Properties said in a statement,"

Is "earnest" the name of the guy seen wandering around the construction site, or is there any visible evidence this is happening?

I think the implicit buried lede in that article is that there's a billion dollars being invested in one block. I realize that's not 100% private money, but hey, certainly not nothing.

It's where the washrooms are. They moved them inside before the freeze. I see Kings pumping them out weekly. I live and work facing this site and watch it everyday. Probably more than I care to admit.

There has been some above ground work. Most people don't see it but they've focused in the parkade/underground since ramp up in July. They have heaters running 24 hours a day down there. They're spending most of their time underground.

They've poured a lot of concrete down there. I'm assuming with the design change, the foundation needed to be adjusted before they started building above ground.

Friend of mine has a cousin working on site....he sent a photo of Ernest working in the underground parkade....the equipment they have maybe explains the pace of construction.

Sad fact: Jim Varney, the actor who played Ernest, died in 2000 at the age of 50. Varney, a chain smoker, succumbed to lung cancer.

Haha nice. From what I remember based on building square footage and some math. The 10 storey part would only be about half of the building length. It'd be a 2 storey podium, with 8 storey building on top at one end (the St. Mary end).
