And for reference, Sun-times data recorded 795 homicides in 2021, so it has been a nearly 50% reduction from the pandemic peak over the past 4 years.

What's more, the 5 most violent community areas on the west side and the 5 most violent on the Southside combined for 198 homicides last year. In 2021, those same 10 areas combined for 408 homicides.
According to the Jackass page, the homicides in Chicago in 2025 were 433, not 416.

Detroit finished 2025 with 165 homicides, the lowest number in 60 years, and down 19% from the previous year.

Jackass includes all homicides including self defense.

So 416 would be the criminal homicides under CPD jurisdiction and the number used for federal reporting.

I don't think Detroit's homicide rate has been below 30 per 100,000 in over 50 years.

Haven’t been on here in ages. We moved the family to Amsterdam a few years ago, for 2025 the city had 10 murders for around 950,000 people.

The Netherlands as a whole had 98 murders for around 18,000,000.

Around 0.5/100,000

Down from around 250 murders in the 1990’s with three million fewer people.

Yea it’s at 25.55. Not as low as I’d been hoping the trend through the 3rd quarter was putting it at 17. A 50% drop in one year would be spectacular if incredibly optimistic. Still the trend is continuing in the right direction at pace.

Toronto is at 1 homicide as at January 18th.

A bit early to be doing 'annualization', still, it would work out to 0.6 per 100k, for a full year.

Never too early to start an annualization

Fewest homicides in England and Wales since 1977

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgk86rr0vxyo

The population of England and Wales is just shy of 61Million with 499 Homicides.
If you live in the UK and watch the news you would be forgiven for believing that you live in a war zone

Toronto has had one homicide so far this year, the same as it did at the same juncture last year. Good start.
