Harborside 4 Breaks Ground at 20 Columbus Drive in Jersey City, New Jersey

Quote:
Construction is underway on Harborside 4, a 55-story residential skyscraper at 20 Columbus Drive in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey. Designed by Handel Architects and developed in a joint venture between The Related Companies, Modon Holding, and Panepinto Properties, the structure will yield 800 units, with 600 rentals and 200 condominiums. The project will also include 12,000 square feet of retail space split into three separate storefronts, and a collection of residential amenities. The property is bounded by Christopher Columbus Drive, Greene Street, Hudson Street, and Pearl Street.

The above main rendering looks west along Christopher Columbus Drive showing the building beginning with a multi-story podium with a flowing notch at the southeast corner. Above, the main tower features an L-shaped massing with rounded corners. The eastern volume will feature a lower roof height, and is topped with a terrace lined with glass railings. The western volume will rise the full height to a crown with loggia cutouts.

The façade is depicted composed of a triple-height grid of copper-hued paneling surrounding floor-to-ceiling windows, including curved glass at the corners. A new landscaped public plaza and tree-lined sidewalks will surround the complex.

The following rendering previews Harborside 4’s context within Jersey City’s waterfront skyline. This image shows a small cantilever on the northern elevation above the intersection of the tower’s two volumes.
