So I was walking along Kingsway in Vancouver this morning and started noticing these "Avengers" symbols in some of the newer sidewalks. Here's one on the southwest corner of Kingsway and Clark Drive. What's up with these?

There's one on the opposite corner in front of the Dollar Tree too. There's two of them on that Clark/Kingsway corner you mentioned.

I am intrigued and am trying to find the answer. They've been there since 2007 at the latest.

I think it's some sort of abstract representation of how Kingsway doesn't follow the normal street grid. A better view from this angle. And the one at Knight. The thickest line of the "A" is running parallel to Kingsway. Just a theory

Here they are referenced in a CoV Streetscape Design Detail document for the Knight Kingsway Neighbourhood Centre as a sidewalk stamp.

It's an abstract representation of the intersections of Kingsway, Knight, and King Ed.

Seems to be a symbol of sorts that is meant to represent the neighbourhood.

Lime E-Scooters Coming to Granville Island--Announcement from CMHC-Granville Island

We are writing to share an exciting transportation update regarding the proposed addition of Lime E-scooters to Granville Island. Lime is a shared micromobility provider offering electric scooters for short-term rental, with the goal of increasing mobility options for people travelling across the City of Vancouver. Since it was launched in 2024, there are now approximately 60 docking stations citywide, with continued expansion into neighbourhoods such as Kitsilano.

CMHC-Granville Island (CMHC-GI) has been working closely with both the City of Vancouver and Lime to add three new docking locations on Granville Island (shown on the map below), supporting new active transportation opportunities to and from the Island. Installation is scheduled for February 9, 2026, at the following locations:
• West Anderson (Adjacent to the Keg)
• 1540 Old Bridge Walk
• 1240 Johnston St (Old Yellow Crane Ramp)

All scooters are stored in a designated docking station, similar to the Mobi bike share system. Trips must begin and end at a docking station and scooters are not permitted to be left on sidewalks or elsewhere on the Island. CMHC-GI has negotiated specific restrictions with Lime to maintain safety for pedestrians and other users, including exclusions around pedestrian pathways and boardwalks. Additionally, scooters will be limited to a maximum speed of 15 km/h across the majority of the Island.

CMHC-GI supports micromobility as a way to encourage sustainable travel and improve accessibility. Micromobility helps address the “last mile” gap between transit and final destinations, which is particularly relevant for Granville Island given its distance from SkyTrain stations and frequent bus routes.

Nice steady expansion from Lime. They exploded in popularity compared to a relatively slow start from mobi in my recollection. And that's with a pretty limited footprint in terms of coverage area.

Tbf, Mobi started way earlier with substantially less backing, Lime is a worldwide company that has done this in dozens of cities. Glad to see this expansion happening, they really close the gap for those slightly too long to walk/also a pain to take a car type of trips that Granville Island falls right in to.

Mobi was financed by the City. I'd love to know if the taxpayer has even made their money back on it yet, or if that was a gift.

Why should that be the case? We don't demand the taxpayer make money back from other services like road maintenance. It's really just a basic amenity of a modern city, something tax dollars should fund (I would say this should apply to car sharing and scooters too).

Car shares are subsidized with respect to their parking privileges.

I'd be ok with cheaper Lime scooters, but people would freak out if tax dollars went towards them. I don't care too much either way.
