I try to look for the positive most of the time, but that last gray and white rendering of the upper floors was a real disappointment, especially given that location. Maybe the lower floor of brick and the street engagement will help the overall outcome.

That rendering looks like a generic placeholder that doesn't even align with the site. On their website, they still show the original renderings. Would be cool to get height there but I'm skeptical that's the look. Too bad too because that would add some decent height to that corridor.

Lowkey I wish the state DID go forward with their plans for a skyscraper-parking garage immediately behind it... I was against it at the time but after these guys went at it with the city... I think they specifically deserve a parking garage towering over their asset

IMO it is one of the best lots in the city for a skyscraper or signature development but we're getting a wood frame over concrete podium 😭 I'll take the mid block connection tho

Noticed in the new building permit for the Delta Center Upper Bowl renovations that they plan to add ''Gondola Seating"

If it's anything like what they have in Detroit, the new seats would hang from the ceiling and provide a video game-like overhead view of the game. Interesting

gondola seating
It's so people can wrap up a day at Snowbird and zip across the valley directly to their upper bowl seat.

From what I have heard with friends who work at WGU, they plan to build an event space to hold in-person commencements for students at their new location. Plus, they are heavily forcing people back to work in person so it could have a higher head count than their current Murray location.

I hope this is the real one and not just a preliminary bait and switch version.

Someone in the comments on that post asked if it is a current rendering, and they responded that it is an older sketch/render...

lol, they literally posted an AI generated render on their instagram. Let’s hope the actual building isn’t designed by a bot.

Sadly, I think we are in the doldrums right now. We do know that we should have updates on multiple projects later this year. Those projects being the Salt Palace Convention Center, Entertainment District, the West Quarter blocks C and D, and FrontRunner double tracking.

We may see other updates for a few other projects also later this year, but they all depend on a few other factors. One being a coming ruling on tariffs and the other a reduction or at least a hold steady level on interest rates. Both of these items we should know more about in the coming weeks.

Otherwise, we are just seeing the continued movement in the Granary District and work still happening on the Rocky Mountain HQ in the Power District. But overall, all of the projects aren't that tall, they are good infill and increased density though.

It does seem slow but there are still a lot of cranes up around the city.

There's still quite a few apartment projects ongoing. I think the novelty of having 5-over-1's going up everywhere has just worn off and they're not considered particularly noteworthy anymore. The big projects have definitely stalled out but I think it's temporary.

Hey, guys – I've been a long-time lurker who thought it was finally time to create an account. This weekend, I spent some time digging through building permits on SLC's website, hoping to see if there's any hint of what will happen to the old UWM site. No luck there, but I did learn a few things happening in the area:
  • A permit has been filed by the LDS Church to build a fence around their Conference Center. This is unfortunate in my opinion, as it makes multiple, completely fenced in blocks in that area.
  • Back in Sept. 2025, Property Reserve/City Creek Reserve filled a permit to change signage on their building at 15 W South Temple from "Gateway Tower West" to "2 Main at City Creek." This is what, maybe the third attempt to rename the structure? Looks like they've made the name change on their website: https://citycreekslc.com/building-gtw/
  • Most intriguing to me, Zions Bank has filed for a demolition permit for at least some, and maybe all of, the old Dinwoodey complex at 37 W 100 S.

Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the heads up on the Dinwoodey. It would be a real shame if they demolished it instead of restoring it, which has been a rumor for a long time now. I always think of the picture with the star, the day that Utah became a state in 1896:

Yeah, I know it's been hidden behind that blank facade for decades, but it would be great to see a renovation/restoration of the building instead of a removal. I won't hold my breath.

I don't think they can do that anymore. They would need to submit some generalized plans for what will replace the building to get the demolition permit. Parking isn't a reason for demolition so it would be denied.

If they don't have a plan to build something soon, they would need to landscape the area.

We should learn more as the permit goes through the process. But we shouldn't expect parking. If the City wouldn't let the LDS Church add parking to replace the Plaza hotel, I doubt they would allow anyone else to demolish a building to be replaced by parking.

I was joking but landscaped unused land isn't any better.
