Good info, though I did specifically say pre-covid as I didn’t come downtown much during the encampment days. Just wanting to be clear, as it appears that people sometimes argue points that weren’t made, but I’m glad people are happy with things as they are.

Give it a few more years and I’ll probably agree, if we come out on the optimistic side of things.

Do we know if this is for active square footage, or mall size over-all. Obviously 2 empty floors of The Bay in Dartmouth add huge amounts of footage.

it is usually based on leaseable space
so The Bay for the time it was open in 2025 would be included in this

Eddie Bauer is planning to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

https://retailwire.com/discussion/lessons-learned-eddie-bauer/

All 200 retail stores in North America will shutter. They will carry on as an online business with 20 stores in Japan remaining open.

In the Maritimes, this will affect locations in Champlain Place in Dieppe and MicMac Mall in Dartmouth.

The Peavey Mart location is interesting to me. I remember way back when it used to be IGA with a drive-thru grocery loading area near River Lane. So the bones of the building is definitely made for a grocery store which is great. Hopefully they'll bring back 90's food prices.

What has changed over the last 30 years though is the number of grocery stores in Sunnyside. There is now Superstore, Pete's Frootique, and Giant Tiger between the two malls. This could be economically sustainable if the area had grown a lot but that's not the case. The whole area has been built out and there is no space for any new suburban neighbourhoods. The section of Bedford north of Mill Cove / HPR has 10'000 residents at most.

I'm guessing Olive Garden will be built on one of these restaurant pads that are listed for future developments.

Across from Costco in the Factory Outlet parking lot.

Or across from The Keg or across from Playdium.

Makes sense as it is a high visibility premium location at the main entrance to DC off Wright Avenue and next to the hotels.

Recipe Unlimited Canada now owns both East Side Mario's and Olive Garden (Canada).

Looks like the third Halifax Costco has been confirmed internally in a slide show to open in 2028:

That's way out in the sticks, but has been reported on previously. Guess they are going for the Bedford/Valley market.

Speculation, but...

Based on new building permits filed, it appears Reitmans will be relocating in Halifax Shopping Centre to a nearby space between Tip Top and Pseudio. Their existing location is beside the large Gap/GapKids store, which is very likely to close this year (as they have been across the country). This combined ~18,000 sq.ft. space is prime for UNIQLO's overdue arrival here. My money is on that space for a 2027 opening.

This is a solid theory
