This is great news.

On the last big family roadtrip me and my brother took with our parents the Confederation Bridge was brand new. I looked it up and it cost $35 to cross back in 1997 (that would be around $64 equivalent in 2025). We then took the ferry to Nova Scotia after spending a couple of nights on PEI.

To me, the Gordie Howe bridge is the most exciting Canadian bridge since that time.
It came out yesterday that construction delays will set back the opening until 2026
Nice flyover video

Oh nice. This is the first I'm hearing about the new bridge.

Damn, the old Ile d'Orléans is one beautiful bridge. Hope it's not demolished, but it's looking pretty old in the more recent photo.

The old bridge will indeed be dismantled.

Youtube video (which doesn't seem to work properly) detailing the ins and outs of the new bridge. Click on the link to see it.

Well, at least the replacement will also look spectacular.

Honestly, I tend to slow down traffic when I cross this bridge because the views on the St-Lawrence, the Montmorency waterfalls and Cap Diamant (Quebec City) are beautiful.

Ah, what us Saint-Jean, Nouveau Brunswickers would do for a bridge like this

The new Île d'Orléans Bridge might have even better views than the old one from the looks of it.

Fixed the youtube link, btw. I don't know why, but for some videos you must copy and paste part of a longer URL that you is only accessible from the share button on Youtube's website.

I've often thought about taking a road trip to Quebec City, since it's about the closest big city to Saint John other than Halifax and Boston. I'll never take the VIA train from Moncton again unless I absolutely to... driving over this bridge in now on my bucket list.

It is amazing that Ile d'Orleans has been successful at avoiding suburbanization, given its proximity to Quebec City and the beauty of the place.

There’s only a very small area that started to looks like it in St-Pierre, but it didn’t go very far. Take a look around “Avenue des Lilas”

Amazing image. Too bad the old bridge can't be saved, they look great side by side.

It will. The federal government will invest 1 billion $ in the next 25 years.
