Hard to imagine anyone investing in property on that stretch. Between the Main St Project and the Lighthouse Mission. The only feasible use seems like it would be some sort of shelter expansion or supportive housing. I can't imagine anything else being workable in there.

Maybe Main Street Project can take their renovation and expand it north?

Free Press said on Dec 30/25 in an article on the Manwin Hotel, Main St. Project had offered earlier in the year somewhere between $400000 to $600000 based on the land value for the property. MSP estimated that it would cost about the same amount to demolish it so some where in the 1 million dollar range just to get back to an empty lot to start building on.

If as suggested there is no insurance on the property, does the city put a lien on the title for the cost of the emergency fire demolition costs which may as much or more than a controlled demo

They were already embroiled with a lawsuit against manwin owners. I am not sure if it was ever resolved.

So there may be something there for the main street project to acquire it. Where does there funding come from? (I suppose I could google)

Hopefully this is views as an opportunity to build something useful for the community on the property.

Agreed. Hopefully whatever lawsuit they have is resolved, and maybe they can build something attaching to the Lighthouse building. At least whatever they build there will be better than the eyesore that was the Manwin.

an expansion of Main St Project is really the only hope that land will ever be developed. but in all honesty, let's revisit this post in 5 yrs and see if progress made

How long has the lot south of Logan been sitting vacant (ie: a parking lot)? Quite a long time now.

Which Lot? The one beside Kum Koon Garden / Pharcyde Convenience, or the lot behind the Occidental Hotel or the lot beside the art gallery?

CBC Manitoba was reporting today that the non profit group that was interested in putting up a building at the former Southerland Hotel site was interested in partnering with Main Street Project to develop the Manwin Hotel site now that it may be available

The lot on east side Main St Between Logan and Disraeli. It still has the old front door stonework and a couple steel beams spanning the lot frontage. It's been vacant for decades.

Or has that lot never been anything? I would have to assume it was burnt down and they left the columns at the front for some purpose.

If both the Sutherland and Manwin hotel sites could be developed for affordable/supportive housing that could have a sizable impact on homelessness in the area.

I have to admit I'm a bit worried about turning that strip of north Main into a bit of a ghetto for homeless/addicted people, but I'm not sure what else would be suitable for the area. I think the optics of having new builds with appropriate supports would do more for people's self-esteem than being dropped into an old and decaying building that had been re-purposed from a "skid-row" hotel.

Somebody mentioned somewhere else to bulldoze it all, and move the people somewhere else. Re-develop the area into something else. Enforce it. Basically this whole zone.

Otherwise the area is, and has been, and will be permanently a homeless encampment.

I saw something recently that Thunderbird House will be getting fixed up.

Is this place on Austin the container place? Or what is it. Looks.. like something.

These streetview images are so spot on of the situation it's hilarious. Spot on.

I have a vague memory of going to City Meat Market in that block of Main St. with my mother and aunt many years ago. I think there was a fire in the building and it was demolished with the exception of the front beams.
