Wow!!!! This exceeded expectations. That tile work looks stunning. I can't wait to walk around once the Monarch opens up and Grand Hyatt finishes their renovation.

Thumbs up

A major victory for Downtown San Antonio and Texas public parks.

Now, let's get cracking on that Spurs Arena.

This pic is a week or so old but they've poured concrete about halfway to the left of that dirt field and are continuing to do so. They've also filled in the former pullover lane for old Convention Center (under the trees by Market Street) with mulch and plants and redid the curbline. It doesn't seem like the work to be done for an apartment, maybe this lot will be temporarily opened up? Or my wishful thinking, they're abandoning the apartment and extending the park in some way. Also the entrance to Civic at Market and Alamo is closed off and being redone, tearing up the curb and sidewalk.

I’m guessing that project is dead in its current form due to economic issues and they quietly are going to place temp parking while they figure out next moves

Hopefully the design dies with it too...

So here it is. The new Market Street building, a two story structure with two levels of underground parking. I'd add renderings but I'm too lazy, just click the link:https://sanantonio.primegov.com/viewer/preview?id=0&type=8&uid=1bcc7a8d-22d1-4345-87df-c7a7f3c11276

It's two stories y'all.

oh man... lol. i mean idk how much better that 10 story box was. but damn wasn't the original proposal like a 30 story tower?

edit: now that I'm thinking about it, and possibly a long shot theory, but maybe they're shifting the future vertical stuff towards the southern end of the park since project marvel is a go at this point.

This is better than the 10-story box. I think preserving the view of the Tower of the Americas from the rest of downtown is important. There are plenty of places to build tall; this is an important place to build right. The initial design seems lackluster, but it's more about human interaction with the park and it's only two stories.

This is exactly what I was thinking, I never thought this was the right spot for a highrise. It would block so many important views of the tower and the human scale next to a park is not a bad thing. And my God, the monstrosity that was proposed previously.... I'm so glad that's not happening. This looks like its way more thoughtfully designed.

Given the previous proposal especially, having a building like this in the core would be incredibly neat in my view. This seems comparable to the Pullman market in its footprint and the gardens/ basement elements add a lot. I also think the idea for housing is still on the table but just at that third lot to the south (like the post above was saying). Project marvel should greatly incentivize things, maybe to the level of that original 17-story proposal or more. Getting housing here was such a big part of the early agenda/ talks I'd be shocked if there was nothing at all.

Just a little something of interest from the document- there is a parcel listed as phase 2 in the aerial views. When looking at what I assume to just be the square footage totals at the end, there is residential/ more retail listed under the phase 2 totals. Could be reading into it too much but I do recall from an article that this would be two phases. Interesting to imagine apartments on such a small area though.. that would need a decent amount of floors.

Looks like it was deleted lol, not authorized to view the document. It looked like the result of modernizing the original Convention Center and that’s awesome

Lesson learned from this and the Soap Factory project (https://skyscraperpage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260302) is to always download the posted plans/video as soon as it's posted in case it gets taken down.
