I rode the bus today for the first time in a couple months. Passing by the site here, and I quite like how the phase 1 building fits with the street scene and red river college across the street specifically. Had a nice feel to it. Looks like construction is moving along. Interior fit out underway.

Four hours later. I assume you’re still on the bus....or waiting on your third transfer.

lol so that was actually the best ride yet on the new system! And all due to my connection being late. 26 minutes from door to door, which is only slightly slower than old system which was about 22 minutes per the sched.

I had surmised that the transfers might improve in winter due to delays. That was the case for me. I hadn't ridden the bus in probably 2 months. May try again tomorrow.

^ the bus from River Heights is comical....no greater frequency than before (twice an hour) except now you catch it at city hall, it goes down main to William Stephenson and waits in a massive line to get across the provencher bridge....then it goes down tache to Marion and back over the Norwood Bridge, before heading down stradbrook, winding through Osborne village to Stafford and then to Academy.....it's double the time it used to be.

It's like they forgot all the inner neighbourhoods and tried to connect them all in one circuitous bus route.

I'm really curious to see what that market building will look like...it will make or break that south development.

What’s happened with Daoust Lestage, have they become completely sidelined in this development? Your column mentioned LM Architecture is designing the market building.

Ya it’s hard to tell just how realistic this rendering is when it appears to be 99% glass with a flat roof and enclosed sides. Looks like it would be a greenhouse in the summer.

...again I have heard that the business plan to make the market building work is challenging.

Interesting also, I was told that the envelope finishes are slow to appear because the panels are so high tech and precise that they needed to wait until the base envelope is essentially complete, then they have to Lidar the exterior as completed to order the exact sized panels. Apparently very challenging.

huge risk having an all glass building. take a walk through exchange district and there's always temp wood panelling up. also if too close to road, getting splashed make it look like crap. if this was Europe, (in my experience) shop owners are out there each day cleaning windows, that doesnt happen here

This is my concern as well. I'm doubtful of the city's ability to keep up with the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of such a seemingly delicate structure.

Just make it green space that is thoughtfully and creatively designed in a way that it can accommodate an outdoor or semi-enclosed market if need be.
