Wow. Gonna be a stunner.

Would love to know where the timber is from. British Columbia, I presume?

Thanks for the update, 4LSaskatoon! It seems the south building side is closer to the intersection than in renders? It seemed like there was outside 'forest space' in previous renders, but in any case, for Saskatoon, I'd say, the bigger the better, cause we're growing fast, and there's still room for a few pines!

I contacted the central library, and the Spruce was sourced from Europe. They had an open competitive tender process and selected the lowest-priced proponent.

British Columbia was my guess as well.

Hey - thanks for checking, Jerry! Much appreciated.

Gotta admit that I am a bit disappointed that the timber isn't Canadian, especially considering the Indigenous theme of the new central library. I do understand, though, that they have a budget to stick to, and the lowest price won out.

You have to build the good things in Saskatoon in spite of the general population and the provincial - literally and derogatively - government. And I'm glad so many developers are doing it. There's a core population here that are above and beyond the burb birthers, incessant online shoppers and navel gazers. They're hard-working, world-experienced entrepreneurs. I really have hope for this isolated outpost. ;>)

‘Shelf-by-shelf’: Saskatoon new public library on track to open in 2027

By Laura Woodward
CTV News
January 08, 2026

The final timber beam has been installed at Saskatoon’s new public library, as crews continue work on the building’s exterior.

The downtown library is on track to open in 2027.

“It’s really exciting,” Saskatoon Public Library CEO Carol Shepstone told CTV News at the construction site, as glass panels were being mounted.

Every book from the Frances Morrison Central Library will need to move into the new facility.
