Agreed. Every year, including this one, they fill out their bottom six with plugs instead of bringing up young players to develop. It’s the biggest issue right now, I think. They need young guys to step in and balance the aging core but because they have never been developed, they aren’t ready for a heavy load. They should have been developed over the last three years so now they would be ready.

The rest of the season should be focused on preparing youth for next year to make sure this is only a one year slide. Call up Lambert, Yager, Salo, maybe others. Let them play 40 games with no leash. Then they might be ready to step in next season.

Winnipeg can’t attract free agents. They need to develop draft picks. Two NHL players, with one being Stanley, a borderline bottom pairing guy, in 9 years of drafting is not good enough.

Under Chevaldaoff the Jets are 14th overall in winning percentage of 33 teams over his tenure. Considering the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 roster he inherited and the limitations of no trade clauses and lack of desire to sign in Winnipeg, I think he's done remarkably well.

I think this is a fair take. That said, we have not had any real playoff success other than 2018. I think that the criticism of Chevy tends to assume the same conditions for the team as larger, more desirable markets. I also think that perhaps Chevy is occasionally a little slow to react to things. We don't need a reactionary GM, but sometimes you want to see the young guys get a chance, especially on what is now a bust season (barring some miracle).

This may be a case of perhaps letting things get a little too comfortable over time. But remember, until the middle of November, things actually didn't look too bad. Best case scenario in my mind is to give some of the younger guys some reps with the big club, move on from some of the guys who are past their prime, and try and reload for next season. Despite all this, it is surprising to me how bad the team has played, and I don't think even the biggest Chevy hater could have predicted how bad the record would be.

Overall, I think Chevy has done a remarkable job. His objective was to strengthen the team from the bottom up to make another solid run for the cup. The problem is, it became apparent to everyone about 2 months ago, that there were some serious problems, particularly with players that were underperforming...Nyquist, Perfetti, Nido, to name a few. Some may point a finger at Toews, but the reality is his linemates have really let him down. There are 6 main issues in my mind:1) there has been no real response to the mounting losses 2) the team is too old 3) there is no secondary scoring threat to replace Ehlers (particularly given what has happened to Perfetti) 4) the youngsters are not getting their chance, 5) clearly we do not have a backup goalie, and 6) Morrisey is being over burdened his play has been suspect lately. Of course the other big question: is our coaching staff up to the task? Chevy has some tough decisions ahead of him.

With 32 teams and 16 qualify for playoffs, that is 50% chance. And if a playoff round is 50/50, let's look at the Jets actual record vs expected record:

(Include 2026 as a missed playoff) So for 15 seasons:

Expected:
Playoff appearances 8 (7.5 rounded)
1st round loses 4
2nd round loses 2
3rd round loses 1
final round loses 1
Cup wins 0 expected (every 32 years team expected to win cup)

Actual:
Playoff appearances 8
1st round loses 5
2nd round loses 2
3rd round loses 1
final round loses 0
Cup wins 0 (we have only tried 15 times)

Jets are doing just fine.

I say blow it up. Seeing Ivar Stenberg in a Jets jersey would be so awesome. We can blow up the team, and rebuild. It would take 3-4 years for results to surface, but it is better than just doing the minimum, watching our prospects bust (we do not have any notable prospects), and becoming NHL bottom dwellers for the next few seasons.

Yup.

I mean look at Buffalo. They're thriving right now and on their way back to the playoffs for the first time in over 15 years.

Detroit is also in a playoff spot for the first time in nearly a decade.

We are a team of almosts. Our window to the Stanley Cup with the current roster has narrowed significantly. If there's anything to live by, we got as far as the WCF, but that was 8 years ago now, and we lost key players since.

This team isn't getting any younger, and our core veterans may be looking somewhere else. If anything, I would dump Nyquist, Pearson, Schenn, and Koepke.

8 years ago, and crucially it was with multiple key guys on entry level contracts. Connor, Laine, Ehlers, Morrissey, Roslovic, and Armia were all on ELCs. Then Trouba, Hellebuyck, Lowry, Copp all making $3M or less. Unfortunately we don't have any prospects of the Connor or Laine caliber and the ones we do have we don't seem to want to integrate.

I don't think Chevy has done a bad job. Looking at his 15 year resume there's been some really great moments from him. And the family culture he's helped build is a large reason guys choose to stay here. But it might be time to move on. Sometimes coaches and GM's run their course. The best example is Paul Maurice. He's a really good coach and was exactly what the Jets needed for a while. But by the end it was time to part ways. I think Chevy has reached a similar point.

With last nights loss, the Jets broke the franchise record for consecutive losses, dating back to 1999, when the team was based in Atlanta. The Thrashers held the record of 10 games in the inaugural 1999-2000 season.

I am not sure about the prior incarnation of the Winnipeg Jets, but that team did have an NHL record 30 game winless streak (0-23-7) in 1980-81. The bright side, of course, is we have a very good chance of obtaining a franchise player for the 2026 NHL draft.

You know what is terrible, I was watching the game last night and my first thought - and I said to my son when we went up 3-1 in the first was "you know what, we are going to lose this game".

How bad is that. Generally, if you have a 2 goal lead you should be able to win the game. Not us, and definitely not with 2 shots in the 3rd.

They are not going through something, they are not in a bad stretch of adversity...they are a poorly constructed, bad team.

I said the same thing Biff. Then I went to play my own hockey game. And sure enough came off the ice to a 4-3 regulation loss.

i was at the game, really really excited to be up 3-1. then we had 3 shots in almost 2 periods.

McDavid draws a crown, 25% arena was in orange, majority said McDavid

Yup, felt the same sentiment. Got slightly excited every time we scored a goal. But felt anxious every minute after that and had that "I fcking knew it" feeling after the 2nd period. Probably will never celebrate any lead this season until after the score clock hits 00:00.

I really feel for you guys, seriously.

I was pretty sure that this was the game that things would turn around on given your stretch and often playing hard/well against us.

I pretty much gave up after the first...

What's the verdict on a pathway forward?

Start mixing up lines. Start bringing up young 🞵🞵🞵🞵. Anything. What we've been doing isn't working. You could make the argument that "so many of these games have been lost by 1 goal" but we shouldn't be measuring it like that anymore. We need to measure our success by how many periods we're winning; which isn't many

We absolutely need to be developing our young guys for the rest of the season. Mixing up the lines has done nothing. On that note, does anyone know why 55-81 is an immutable pair? They are putting up points but not winning us games anymore.

Scheifele pouts if he doesn’t play with Connor. Just like Wheeler used to pout when he didn’t play with Scheifele.
