-14C (windchill -25) in Moncton at 2 PM and sunny.

My heat pumps (I have two because of the size of the house) are having great difficulty keeping up. I have the temperature set for 68F, but, they can't bring the temperature above 65F. As such, it is a tad chilly in the house.

Three more frigid days coming up before things return to normalcy.

The second half of December was warm, a full two weeks straight of above freezing days, with 1 day over 15 and three others over 10 degrees. The fact that Windsor was still 2.6 below normal shows just how cold the start of the month was.

We're back to freezing weather now, but the coming week will be above freezing even during nights. The temperature has been on a yo-yo since November.

Grey day and milder than it has been. We're in a warming trend for the next week. Chance of upper single digits.

Definitely bringing some skates to this pond at some point.

Can skate on some paths through the trees

10 degrees in Vancouver at 4:30pm. This is starting to feel like a year without Winter.

^ It has been pretty mild this year. We may escape the winter without a solid 24-hour freeze, but there's still a lot of January left.

Plants are starting to bloom, though.

-12C with a wind chill of -18 and mainly sunny. Would actually be fine if the temperature was more manageable.

Low of -15C (wind chill of -21) this morning.

The warmspot was Saturna Island, BC at 11.1C. First double digits temperature this year.

Warmest low was Sheringham Point, BC at 8.0C.

Overcast with sunny breaks and wisps of snow before the next storm arrives. Put Christmas away a couple of days early as a Sunday is too good a time to pass up for it

EDIT: Tancredi, an uncle and aunt are in Messina with a few friends for a quick visit on their way to Corsica. They love it.

-12C with a wind chill of -18 and mainly sunny. I am absolutely sick of the cold. It's been non stop since early November (save for a few days). Most brutal start to winter in a lot of people lifetime.

Low of -18C (wind chill of -22) this morning.

The warmspot was Qualicum Beach, BC at 11.8C. New high temperature for 2026.

Warmest low was Discovery Island, BC at 8.0C.

Messina, and the northeastern tip of Sicily in general, is the rainiest coastal area in all of Sicily, thanks to Nebrodi, Peloritani and Mount Etna to the south and the mountains of Calabria to the east, which act as a shield and create an orographic lift (Stau) effect.

First snow day of the year. Even Metrobus is off the roads until at least noon.

A frigid -16C (windchill -27) in Moncton at 8 AM. A high of -14C this afternoon.

A new apartment building under construction adjacent to the Mount Allison University campus in the Moncton exurb of Sackville. A chilly street scene for Tancredi. Note how the street is filled with vibrant human activity.

Yes, there is actually an incredible crowd of people. Moncton, it seems strange, but that building under construction resembles a typical building from Caribbean countries in its shape and colors, but with the wonderful climate of New Brunswick. I’m curious to see what it will look like when it's finished

Temps are starting to moderate. But more snow overnight. We are over 300% 30 year average for snow here in Dec, overall is about 400% average. -14 today going up to 0 tomorrow and +6 by the weekend. Got out for a few rides in the snow until it got to deep and was not packed so switched to our new Velodrome. -18 outside +23 inside.

Reading that the polar vortex is weakening so we may be getting more cold air dropping down.

WOW!!! This building looks very nice. I am always amazed when I see buildings with balconies in cold and stormy places like the city of Moncton. I don't know if they are also built for aesthetic reasons.

Perhaps it's because in architecture, even though building balconies in such harsh climates might seem like a contradiction (since sub-zero temperatures and snowstorms make them unusable for many months), they may be included to increase commercial value: an apartment with an outdoor space sells better, even if it's only used three months a year.

But it could also be for psychological reasons: in areas where winter is long, having a window that opens onto a balcony provides a sense of greater freedom and connection with the outdoors, which is essential for mental well-being :saluti:

This building is in Sackville, NB, not Moncton. It is a distant exurb about a half hour from the downtown of the city.

As for the balconies, it should be remembered that Canada has a particularly schizophrenic climate. It is not always cold and stormy here. In fact, we can get very hot and humid too. Winter may last four months, but, so does summer. The fall shoulder season is usually quite nice.

Kids were sick so we had to miss Christmas at the inlaws up north. Supposed to go yesterday but surprise, surprise, more snow. Then was going to leave this morning but looking at the traffic cams, up there it's hit or miss as to which sections of road are plowed. And then it's going to start snowing again later today and tomorrow.

Apparently, people in the north end of Barrie in the dense subdivisions with the small yards are at their wit's end on what to do with the snow. Some commercial properties and condos have contracts or occasionally hire for snow removal. This might become a thing now for residential in all those postage stamp yard properties. Could be a lucrative business to get into.

At home we got like 5 cms yesterday. One of the easiest shovel jobs I've ever had. It was so light and fluffy. Few more days of sub zero but next week looking good. Hope the plus temps hold to get rid of this snow cover.
Yeah the snowbelt and even the peripherals of the snowbelt have been getting hammered. Barrie has has at least 10 cm of snow on the ground since November 28th. Environment Canada's station isn't recording total snowfall but it might be already close to their seasonal average with a solid 2 and a half months of snow season left.

Thanks for the clarification; I thought it was in Moncton rather than Sackville, even though both are in NB. In any case, in my previous post, I also made some other observations that I added later, which apply to both Moncton and Sackville. :SÌ:
