Hopefully the finished facade looks less like it has bricked-in windows than the rendering. Not a good look IMO.

Don't have anything to contribute atm but just got back from my first ever visit to STL & am very excited to keep an eagle eye on this thread and watch for any new developments. Keep up the good work

oh, yikes, yeah that's bad. they could at least dither the bricks or something like they do on the front.

hope you had a nice visit. i haven't had time to post updates with much frequency lately but trying to add a few things now and then.

It was a nice trip and good to see some of the development underway near Forest Park & the Central West End. I plan on posting a photo thread at some point of my pics from it. And no worries, any and all updates are appreciated

Speaking of, I did see news that the city is moving forward with the demolition at the Millennium Hotel site as of a few days ago

^ yep, demo has begun. remediation is supposed to take a while though. i read previously that construction will begin in 2027. there might be new info in the Business Journal article below but i don't have a subscription.

Albion West End is a nice addition to the skyline, and meets the street more humanely than its brutal (if beautiful) neighbor.

If you think about it, STL is unusual for a city of it's size in having a lot of pretty significant tall or midrise urban-type development that's outside and well away from the CBD but also within the city proper or inner-ring burb.

In most of the smaller metros, there's some modest but steady urban/high density new construction happening either in downtown proper or some neighborhood directly adjacent to it, and then all the rest of the growth is low rise low density or unabashedly suburban. Pure donut effect.

Downtown St Louis seems like it's really in bad shape, but people focus on that too much because they are judging things on the assumption that all cities are downtown-centric when they are not. But the corridor that goes towards and past the Central West End seems to make up for it. It makes it seem like an even bigger city than it is, because you have multiple clusters of tall buildings and old brick buildings touching the sidewalk and they are joined together by a light rail which is more like a metro or subway since its tracks are in tunnels or on bridges most of the time.

Maybe its just me, but is that a Lower Midwest/Southern thing? Seems like I see a lot more prominent Midtowns in cities which also have famous BBQ styles than on the Coasts

That was something that impressed me on my visits. From the right spot, the multiple East/West skylines really show how expansive the core of the city stretches

I know that there's not exactly unanimous love for these projects but i think they make for a damn handsome pair. Especially for the prominent location they're in, I'd say they are a solid addition. The "100above the park" was a real eye catcher from around the Central West End & I'm hoping Albion compliments it well once its finished
