Haters gonna say it’s value engineered (it probably was).

I don’t understand that hotel pic. Surely the ceiling isn’t 20’ for each room. I’m assuming you pay more for the lower rooms with balconies, but then have another balconyless room with a direct view of said balcony. No privacy whatsoever. Unless I’m wrong.

I like it. It's not the Chrysler Building, but it's nice, and it's not a simple box.

Absolutely LOVE how this impacts our skyline from all areas. It's pretty crazy it's the tallest building in Texas but part of me feels like it's not THAT tall for some reason

But no matter what, I'm grateful we're able to have and view a 1,000 ft+ building in Austin rather than not having one at all

I feel like the perceived height of a building mostly comes down to ceiling heights and those double floor windows throw the entire thing off

Altogether it looks like three different buildings stacked up on each other.
Am not a fan of the crown though.
Looks like a backyard shed out in Manor.

Food For Thought........

I thought initially these may have been two-story loft styled or open hotel room suites. I'm still not sure. But here's one thing I do know, it wasn't that long ago that Austin BEGGED to see the day for a thousand-footer. I'm just glad to see it finally happen, so I'm not going to get wrapped up in the "should have been" or "it would have been better if" on this building. However, the next thousand-footer that hits Austin better be dang perfect or scrutiny will occur! LOL.

I think it's getting a lot of negativity from some just because we saw what could have been. Yeah the sections could be more cohesive but to me it turned out better than I imagined. I enjoy seeing it from afar. It's distinctive. Reminds me a bit of Quay Tower in Australia. There's a lot of stunning supertalls here in the U.S and there are others that don't do anything for me.

We never begged for a thousand-footer, more so never imagined we'd be getting a thousand-footer, at least not so soon.

Oh, I’ll take it…….as it is really impressive and adds awesomeness to the skyline by its sheer size and different “texture”.
But I’ll be more impressed whenever a developer puts up a 1,000’ version of the Norwood Tower or something similar.

My 11 y/o son thinks its cool. He likes the bragging rights to the tallest in Texas. So, I'm going with him on this one.

I've said this before, I believe once Austin attracts the UBER wealthy companies and employees making NYC/SF money to downtown, the market will demand a starchitect designed building. An architect that won't attach themselves to "value engineering". But it's the demand that needs to drive it. We have a lot of new money buyers who don't know what to expect (or have much of a choice) for $1000/ft. When you step up to $2-3k/ft, expectations rise from the buyer side significantly, and one of those expectations is a "name brand" architect with style and substance.

Austin isn't a "splashy" show off town(though that is changing slowly)....so that may take awhile. That fact is one of the reasons (among many) people choose to relo here from HCol Coastal cities is because of the lack of pretense.

On the commercial side, I think we need a local company to build a signature tower. I doubt that will happen, as I don't think those types of companies exist in Austin that want to throw money into a 1000 ft monument to themselves like companies do in other cities. Some company will probably build something tall, but I imagine it will be a VE building. Maybe someone like Dell's son could do it in a decade or 2 if one of his ventures takes off.

All that is to say, I do believe we will get a real signature tower in the next cycle or 2, and I think it will go on the Post Office site.

Lastly, we need a giant philanthropic scene like other major cities who hire the best to design and build public works. MDell, Elon, others could be those guys, but I see that happening when they approach old age. Those things come from families who have "love affairs" with their town and townspeople.

I was in town tonight and saw that they've added 4 red flashing lights to the roof. They're quite bright. I could see them from North Austin

The crane started to come down yesterday. It's an end of an era and I'll kinda miss it since it's been apart of the skyline for so long but at the same time it's exciting to see a completed skyline at least until the next building cycle begins.

Is that the only crane currently? It can’t be.

The only crane Downtown yes. We’ll have one go up just south of the river and for the CC expansion soon.

Hmmm. What is the general consensus now that the exterior is basically finished?
