Didn't see the race, caught some highlights. Congrats to Norris, impressive that Max came so close. Shitty for Piastri, he lead for most of the season.

Looking forward to the new cars next year, they should be quite a bit smaller and allow for more passing on tight tracks. Sauber will be Audi and Cadillac will enter, curious how competitive they will be. Newey will have his car running for Aston, hopefully they do better and Alonso can get some podiums before he retires. Would be nice to see Stroll do well too as the lone Canadian on the grid.

I don't see anything wrong with what he did. If anything, I would say Yuki could have done more.

What did you expect? That he was going to behave and let Norris by. Absolutely not.

He's had a shitty season. He doesn't have a driver's seat next year. He has nothing to lose, doing what he did. Can you imagine if he had held Norris behind him, and handed the championship to Max. Then he could have always said " if it wasn't for me, Max wouldn't have won".

I would have done a million times worse if I was Yuki. I would have swirved left/right a million times trying to keep him behind. Fuck the penalties. When you have nothing to lose and your team has everything to gain, who cares about 5 or 10 second penalties...

Great end to the season coming down to the final race.

I don’t think Yuki was that reckless in front of Lando. Who doesn’t like Yuki. Hope he finds a seat again.

Mercedes P2 for Constructors got overlooked.

Lots to look forward to next year. New regs/designs, Audi, RedBull-Ford, Aston Martin-Honda. Really looking forward to seeing Cadillac with Checo and Botas.

Yuki was a bit reckless, at least as defined by FIA rules:

Quote:
One Move Rule: Drivers can only make one direction change to defend their position. Any return to the racing line must leave at least one car width for the opponent.

Track Limits: Drivers can't leave the track or force others off it during a battle.
Prohibited Moves: Dangerous tactics like weaving, brake testing, or unsafe rejoining are not allowed.

Room for Overtakes: Defenders must leave space if the attacking car meets specific positioning criteria at the apex.
I believe the ruling was that Lando was going to easily pass Yuki on his left (much superior DRS overtake speed) but at the last second Yuki juked over (after already moving once) and for Lando it was either go off the track or hit Yuki, as it was too late to slow down.

Another explanation

But yes, I still love Yuki. Everyone does.

Bingo. Garbage move and weaving that is extremely dangerous.

Slow him up, sure, but push him off, BS.

If I were Yuki I would have done the exact same thing, nothing to lose but something to gain by helping your "teammate"

That “one move rule” needs to go. Total rubbish, as one well known Brit would say…

Too many rules now, making the sport dull. I agree with his overall assessment.

Before these silly rules there was this thing called payback. You fuck with me this race, I will fuck with you the next and everyone knew that and understood it. Many drivers got called out during drivers meetings before the race. I remember Senna and Prost going at it during those meetings and it getting pretty heated. They learn and get over it. Prost was a pallbearer at Senna's funeral so it doesn't last.

Remind me to say hi when we are driving on the Deerfoot next time.

It's all about safety now, though.

We should change One to 1 in the thread title.

What were your first memories of following F1?

For me it was cheering on Nelson Piquet in the 80's. I was 10 years old or so, and watched races on CBC-French (usually) in the rurals of NB. English races were rarely an option, somehow, and I didn't know French. But you didn't need a language, anyway.
I lost track of the sport in the late 90's and early 2000's, but gradually picked it up in the past 10 years again.

Have you read THE MECHANICS TALE by Steve Matchett? A good read and some good stories about Piquet. Piquet would fart while Matchett was trying to strap him into the car as a joke. Classy!

I haven't! Those are Yuki Tsunoda level chaos-monkey antics!

So you weren't getting the full Murray Walker commentary experience.

Any particular reason why you were a Piquet fan?

Watching Jacques Villeneuve compete in the mid - late 90s. I've always like F1 but it's not been the easiest series to follow in this country, especially with Indy / CART being easier to find on TV. The renewed popularity of F1 has made this much better though and I rarely miss a race.

Would love to see another race in Canada, Area 27 in the Okanagan would be my choice, could probably even do a night race there! Would never happen, but one can dream. In the meantime, Canada needs another Indy race, think it's only Toronto since Edmonton lost their race. Calgary has floated the idea, but I feel like the weather here is too unstable in summer to consistently host the event. Can't think of an open wheel race in a violent hailstorm happening before lol.

Because he wasn't Prost or Senna, who got all the fanboys. Not to say Piquet was ever really an "underdog" but I generally always root for someone other than a Shumacher or Verstappen... I guess that goes back to when I was 10.

It almost happened last year. And this was in June. Imagine what could happen going forward, with the race now in May !

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/W55w5-kJTUk

Maybe we should move the race to January/February and make it the first race of the year. Slap some winter tires on those machines and have ourselves a proper Canadian Grand Prix ! Instead of a safety car, we could have a snowplow.....
