Now that it's becoming very real, I truly hope this is a tax boon for the City.

At this rate, I would bet money that the hotel portion would top out before March...but the casino's not open yet, so I got nowhere to bet
(I'll see myself out..)

Do you mean in terms of size?
I think the casino is pretty massive, area-wise. If you look at Google Map and compare the area to where the Montgomery Ward condo building is located further east, the casino portion alone is two square city blocks, and with essentially almost four full floors of gaming:

"Bally’s Chicago development will harness the beauty of the urban Chicago riverfront site to create inclusive, dynamic spaces, including plans for the 500-room hotel tower, 3,000-seat theater, six restaurants, cafes and a food hall, and a 2-acre public park. The casino will offer space for approximately 3,400 slots, 170 table games and VIP gaming areas. The lower riverbank will be connected to the property with an approximately 2,000-foot-long extension of the riverwalk extending south from W. Chicago Avenue."

Even if that structure includes thousands of parking spaces within, it's still absolutely massive.

Just realized part of Chicago Ave and perhaps Halsted are gone in that picture. Interesting to see.

Man, this thing is colossal. It's basically an enormous, 5-story parking garage stacked on top of the casino.

It's pretty unusual to have so many floors of parking on top of the main activity of the building. Usually the parking garage is beneath (podium/underground) or off to the side. Reminds me of the old New Haven Coliseum with a 2010s-style swoopy skin draped over it.

Yes, they are reconstructing that entire intersection of bridges. It's pretty cool to see honestly although super inconvenient.

Went for a walk and took these pictures of the site. It's super interesting to see how it will change the vibe of Erie Street, which already feels cavernous.

I am really excited to see how this will look along the riverfront. I'm not much of a gambler, but I definitely plan to visit when it opens in order to check it out. Hopefully it nets us a good amount of tourist dollars for the city budget

Same here; I would rather watch a show or stay at the hotel for a special event/night out rather than use the casino…and the fact that it’s basically in the downtown area is just so wild to me.

LOL, thanks for posting these. As mentioned in the NY/Bronx thread, this is the first time we've seen any interior renderings for the Chicago facility. I think the Bronx interiors are a lot nicer TBH...

The exterior renderings are also helpful, this casino has gone through MANY redesigns and changes of architect so it's good to see they haven't pull yet another bait & switch. I'm fairly happy with the latest design, it's still massive and overscaled like any casino but at least they're trying to engage the surrounding city and riverfront.

Why do the carpets need to be so terrible? Is it a rule of casinos?

Yeah, it's odd that they didn't release any of those, even with better quality. This casino looks to be 2 years ahead of the Bronx casino.

I remember there being some science of bus seat designs that they are designed to hide all the grime and dirtiness which may be soaked in them, I assume it is a similar thing with these carpets. The busy patterns and wild colors of these carpets hide the grime and stains from spilled drinks or something. That’s my best guess anyways

Casinos are deliberately overstimulating. Flashing lights, no clocks, no windows. Busy carpet patterns keep your visual system occupied without providing anything to focus on. Your eyes skim past it and end up back on machines, tables or signage that makes the casino money. Often the ceilings are so boring that you look down.

There's also an element of wayfinding. Carpets get less busy in places where they want you to walk and very busy where they want you to slow down or get lost.

There's also some culture to it. Old school casinos were kitschy and tasteless and keeping new ones that way makes it feel like a CASINO and not a hotel lobby.

Thanks for finding these. Incidentally, which of the three NYC casino proposals is moving forward? Ballys, or are all three gonna be built? (I couldn't tell from the other threads in this sub).
