Is it just me or is this one of the only projects where I would argue "at-grade units" might be a horrible idea

The Panel believes the elegant design will transform the corner, as this area has high pedestrian movement given its proximity to St. Laurent Shopping Mall.

Elegant design? They looking at the same project?

for example, the podium could have a similar expression to the building across from Lemieux Street.

Agreed. Stay away from ground floor units or maybe even retail. Again, some strange suggestions from UDRP.

I don't think you stay away from retail. At some point St. Laurent replaces its parking structure with residential and you have the possibility of retail on both sides of the street.

Would have been really nice for transit users and pedestrian connectivity if they could have built an enclosed pedestrian bridge or even a tunnel over/under St. Laurent Blvd. connecting to the mall.

huh.. a non sketchup rendition. Somehow I like it more now. A location like this says more to me about utilitarian level housing that shouldn't be placed on Scott st or otherwise. For a basic build shoebox type rental with minimal form on the outside it makes sense. At least on Ottawa level. Driving down the 401 might make you think otherwise.

Once again.. materials can make or break.

Yeah, this is fine. The whole east end of the O-Train will scream "yeah, this is fine". Will still be impressive to see mini skylines every km.

Lopping a 2- 3 stories off the podium (7 feels too high) and sticking an extra couple storeys on top would to make up the loss of density would improve it quite a bit.

I agree.

In general, these suburban towers seem to be density for the sake of density with little regard to street level interaction or urbanism.
