Like I meant Winnipeg in the sense of being located at the fork of two rivers that flood constantly. The land 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. Lots of it was swamp. All of Manitoba was grassy swamp land. But here we are with a decent sized city.

You are right. The peoplenwill develop that lund just like any other piece of land. Build some ponds and everything will be fine.

Ah, I see. Yes I imagine there are issues with soil/drainage etc. that other places don't have to deal with.

I'm really quite surprised by this land development. I was under the impression that south Transcona was mostly no good for residential development because it lies so low. On the other hand, maybe that's what you do with land that can't be developed for any other purpose. I just assumed that land like that was only good for industrial development if anything.

I recall hearing that some houses in the 1970's development of Valley Garden's in EK had their sump pumps running almost constantly 24/7 from spring melt thru winter freeze up due to the high water levels on their lots.

If what I heard was true I wonder what the excavation for their basements looked like. Where they being pumped out every day when the foundation was being worked on?

I have a former coworker who said same, lived in East Transcona and his sump pump runs 24/7 almost through the summer!

South st vital has had the same issue in recent years with pumps running through the winter, including my own. The water table is definitely rising.

Executives at Winnipeg commercial real estate firm Shindico must divide some of their assets with a broker who was their business partner for more than two decades, a Manitoba judge has ruled.

John Pearson of ICI Properties is entitled to three of seven properties he co-owns with Shindico's Sandy and Robert Shindleman, Court of King's Bench Judge Sadie Bond ruled in a decision delivered Thursday.

Combined, the seven properties have a total value of more than $150 million, the ruling said.

Pearson sued the two brothers through the company 4818106 Manitoba Inc. after he ended an agreement that had established a real estate brokerage association with them in 2022.

He said his decision was partly due to "negative attention" the Shindlemans were getting amid allegations they were involved in political corruption, which the brothers denied.

I live close to the north Perimeter and Hwy 59. Our sump pump runs all year long...once or twice a day.

Except technically speaking you are only allowed to drain your sump pump onto your property, which just sends the water back underground creating an infinite loop.

I know that a lot of people have the sump drain (unofficially) hooked into the sewer or the drain pipe empties directly at the back lane or driveway, which would serve to remove the water from the ground permanently.

Fair point. My sump pump used to run once in a while in EK. I graded my lot and it stopped. I haven't tested it in years. But theres also an overflow pipe that goes into the floor drain. So maybe its just going there haha

Unfortunately King's issues go a lot deeper than a new build spurring development. The shelters in the area must be terrible for business

For sure, but Kum Koon Garden, Sam Po Dim Sum + Dim Sum Garden continue to be successful, so hopefully that's a light of hope in a dim corner, plus the Mexican Cafe on Princess

Mexican bakery had window broken so many times they replaced it with some painted art work on plywood. I walk to P&M to those places 1x month and never a pleasant experience. I invite co-workers to join me and none have returned a 2nd time, they love the food but not stepping around people on sidewalk or seeing zombies walking in the streets or being asked 3x for $. Truly a sad state, I hope we see change in the area and with humanity overall
