I met Alan Hale when I was around 5 or 6 years old. He was very sweet and friendly, smile a mile wide, and he did that thing to me where you grab a kid's nose, stick your thumb between your fingers and say “I got your nose!”
I didn't say a word, I think I was starstruck - I watched a lot of Gilligan's Island when I was a kid.
I was with my mom, and we were picking up our clothes from a laundry cleaners. IIRC, you picked up your clothes from a sidewalk window, no need to enter the building. It used to be situated at one of these two locations (approximately), I can't remember which... all the old buildings are gone now, replaced by office buildings. There was also a Lucky's supermarket on one of those two blocks.

We lived right there in Toluca Lake, and would see celebrities pretty often, my best friend lived next door to Andy Griffith. My mom and I ran into Bob Hope so many times, he got to the point of recognizing us and would always say hello!
