While researching for the sb79 project, i found there was a plan for a 14 story hotel in national city port land, it got changed but yeah, really interesting. now 4 buildings up to 8 stories iirc

So many good projects! National City and Chula Vista should really double down on building mid-rise/high-rise neighborhoods. They really need to take advantage of the fact that they are in an amazing region, have great Trolley connections, and are close to downtown. We need Canadian/Australian-style development along the Blue Line corridor ASAP.

Barrio Logan is making good strides, though they seem to have height limits. (I do like that they're building smaller infill projects rather than oversized ones).

And nice to see Oceanside's TOD project approved. Hopefully Coastal Commission doesn't fight it. I don't know the history of it. Oceanside as a whole has come a long way.

Getting a line of high rises along the blue line would be sick,
I've heard rumors that a blue line station in south bay San Diego is getting a 12-14 story building too so that's sick!

Oceanside also is tearing out the movie theater to build a large project. I highly recommend anyone here who hasn't been to Oceanside in years to take a couple hours and walk around you will be shocked. I drove my mother through the area and her jaw dropped, she hadn't been since 2014. South of the downtown along coast highway and side streets to the west there are tons of restaurants and new businesses trying to cater to hip people with money. Not sure they will all be successful but at least they are trying and the aesthetic has drastically improved.

Just East of 805 at University you have a large car wash lot that has been scraped and at EC Blvd the shuttered Pancho Villa and large parking lot. These could almost be marketed as "North Park" what can we expect at these parcels?

Heck yeah good news keeps hitting loving it. Shouldn't there be more than just a Sprouts at Pancho Villa site the parking lot is huge and they demolished some crappy businesses in the corner to make more room. I figure a 1/6 to maybe 1/5 of an acre could be set aside for an 8 floor project. Some of the footprints of the stuff going up in North Park are tiny. Oh looks like the back side of the Vons on 30th in North Park has a lot cleared for infill, noticed it the other day.

Council unanimously backs mixed-use plan for jobs, tourism near Gaylord resort

The Chula Vista City Council unanimously approved plans Tuesday to transform a former aircraft manufacturing facility into a mixed-use development featuring offices, light industrial space and visitor amenities.

The Rohr Wohl Specific Plan covers approximately 45 acres along the H Street corridor, just west of Interstate 5 within the city’s coastal zone. The site formerly housed the Rohr Aircraft Facility, which closed in 2020 after operating for decades.

For comparison, the adjacent Gaylord Pacific Resort covers approximately 36 acres. The project site is bordered by Collins Aerospace and a casino to the north, the Chula Vista Marina to the south, Bay Boulevard to the east and the Gaylord Pacific Resort to the west.

Deputy Mayor Carolina Chavez said she was relieved development would finally surround the Gaylord Pacific Resort, an issue the city has discussed for years, and welcomed the addition of attractive amenities to promote tourism.

The plan divides the property into three areas. The first area covers nine acres, and is designated for light industrial and creative industries. The second and largest area, at 26 acres, will serve as the main employment center with offices, light industrial uses and supporting services. And the third, encompassing nine acres along H Street, is intended as a visitor gateway with potential hotels, restaurants, retail and entertainment venues.

Is anyone surprised that nothing new has been built in UTC area for what 3.5 years now? Seems like an ultra high demand area i thought another tower would have been started next to LUX, there is a space for one just sitting there. Also how many years has that new trolley line been completed, 6 years? What has been built along it in terms of housing... nada. I guess that one apartment complex on Morena but it is right in middle point of Tecolote and Clairmont Dr stop so not super convenient.

I think a lot of developers in UTC were waiting for the new community plan to be approved before designing and permitting new projects. I am curious about how the rest of LUX will be developed, they are entitled for two more 15-20 story towers from what I recall.

And yeah, the trolley corridor between Old Town and UCSD has been pretty light. Not sure what the deal is; likely financials not penciling.

Wow 4th Ave seeing a boatload of activity. I would call this Hillcrest not BH, maybe developers are extending the name outwards for marketing purposes. I joked earlier that everything West of 37th street will soon be "North Park".

Your point about UTC seems to make sense. I also realized a large amount of units have come online at 3 Roots just North East of UTC and serves a similar demographic. If you haven't been there it's been built rapidly and extends to the East in to the canyon.
