Man, that stumpy little building with the long short windows just grinds my gears. So cheap looking IMO. Reminds me of some Airport hotel. Are the cladding materials going to elevate it?

The south facade will be fully clad in solar panels. The east, west facades, and Arts Cube will be white brick, as far as I know. It will be interesting to see how the solar panels turn out and whether they're more similar to 308 Colony or the RRC Innovation Center. The choice of cladding materials will ultimately determine the development's aesthetic appeal.

Looks like they’ve added a second band of windows on the sugar cube.

I think the solar panels are the same as the ones on 308.

I’m looking forward to seeing the little market building. That will make or break it.

That is just a conceptual rendering from several years ago. I imagine the actual building that gets built will look quite different.

Here is the progression (or regression) of the design overtime, starting with some of the design competition entries. It’s quite depressing - too bad they didn’t select a different firm during the design competition. Thankfully the next phase of Market Lands looks much higher quality and will hopefully balance out the site.

The next phase is TV's tower.

Architects must die a little inside every time they're fancy sketches and renders are turned into bland boxes.

The good news is TV’s buildings will block the view of the market lands south from quite a few angles, and also dwarf it in overall scale. Plus the north buildings are just more visually interesting so they will likely draw the eye more towards them and less in the south part. Add in the market building and some trees, and I think the overall development will be fine. As a stand-alone tower tho, I am also quite disappointed in the design of the south portion. Looks like it was plunked down from the 60s or 70s.

It was paid homage to the old public safety building (I'm joking before any brutalist fans get mad at me lol)

That's good to hear. Those have got to be some of the worst streets in the city.

Well, it's good to see this project will start 6 months ago (June 2025).

...I also heard this project will start in Spring 2026.
