This is kind of nerdy, but I wrote a thriller novella set in modern day Austin titled "BLOOD IN THE VIOLET CROWN" that you can download on Kindle for FREE for the next 5 days - through Sunday night (link below).

I occasionally write novellas under a pen name and put them on Amazon. This particular one is a thriller about a young repo man who recently moved from California to Austin who ends up repoing a car that sends his life spiraling.

The cover art sucks because I'm not an artist but the story is really fun and fast paced. If you love this city as much as I do - its grit, its beauty, its contradictions - I think you’ll get a kick out of this one.

Here is the link to download free from Amazon through Sunday: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FVWDJG7V/ref=docs-os-doi_0

How to create a new city forum / tower thread?

Hi all, I was trying to find a thread on this tower I saw on reddit that's proposed for Portland, ME...but there isn't anything on it in SSP.

Could I create such a thread or is this something a mod would need to do? If so, who do I contact?

Thanks!

650' George Washington Monument

A 500' statue on a 150' pedestal. For context that is more than twice the height of the Statue of Liberty. It doesn't say a location, but I suggest the open area between the Palmer Events Center and Butler Park looking north towards downtown. It would become an instant icon drawing people from around the world.

Put it out at COTA. That place is turning into quite the collection of non-racing stuff.

That article is BS. It mentions Trump and Charlie Kirk at the beginning to stir up political discourse. They have nothing to do with this monstrosity. Also, there is no mention of putting this in Austin.

Here's More Monument's one completed project which is entitled Wellspring of Progress located somewhere in Caldwell County. The link below the photo is to their website, and shows photos of the project's construction.

How about a Davy Crockett or a George Strait 650 ft statue on top of Mt Bonnel.

That is exceptionally depressing and ugly. I'd love a huge Washington monument in Austin, but I think we'll see supersonic pig planes before then.

This was actually reported in September and I missed it.

Austin is spending $1 million on a new logo meant to evoke city's hills, 'violet crown skies'

What do y'all think? I hate it.

This has been talked about a lot. I am not sure if much on this site though. It is very well hated through out the city. The city wasting 1 million dollars on this bland logo put a lot of distrust in the city. This is why I believe Prop Q failed and now Austin has to cut many services.
