Sucks, but inevitable. Doesn’t help that they picked not only the most mediocre, but also the most expensive design. Thank the shitty former Provost for that.
Maybe a reduced but redesigned building is a good thing overall.

Their endless budget problems are incomprehensible to me. That university has so much going for it but they can't get out of their own way.

That's a shame, the PoMo dorm on that site is a nice graceful building and appears to be about the same square footage as the new. This could certainly be a clever adaptive reuse project...
