Today's AC889 was 10/20 J and 13/21 PY, and AC888 tonight is 18/20 J and 19/21 PY.

Also an extra YYZ departure on AC since yesterday was Dreams Take Flight day, which ran on a 321.

Brian Sumers of the The Airline Observer had an interview with AC Mark Galardo about airplanes and their range. For those interested.

Nothing really YOW-specific here (although YHZ-LHR being mentioned as a route that will be on the XLR, but not YOW-LHR may be noteworthy, or just an omission). That said, the article mentioning that the aircraft may not have the performance to use shorter runways in secondary markets with shorter runways may end up benefitting YOW and getting service to more "mainstream" destinations, rather than from hubs to secondary markets.

One point that I find interesting is that Canada-India traffic is larger then UK, France or Germany during the winter months. More people travelling to destinations beyond Europe might also benefit YOW travellers getting another transatlantic flight with Middle East/Asia connections if this trend continues.

I think Doha/Dubai/AbuDhabi would be perfect. Nice distance flight and great transfers to the entire east!

I was thinking the same thing with that comment (i.e., maybe if Seville isn't doable that this opens up YOW-FCO as a viable alternative - in like 2028).

In other AC news, the 7M8s, which will all be getting transferred to Rouge will remain in standard mainline livery with a small "operated by rouge" sticker. Config will be 12J/165Y and all seats will recline.

https://paxex.aero/air-canada-rouge-737max-configuration/

Some more details. There will be 18 'preferred' Y seats, which I'm assuming will be the bulkhead row and the two emergency exit rows: https://www.aircanada.com/media/air-cana...ence-with-a-comprehensive-fleet-upgrade/

I don't think Canada allows more flights for the gulf carriers for the same reason it seems appealing. They will steal all the South Asia traffic.

With the PM in the UAE looking to drum up economic ties, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Canada-UAE bilateral expanded by an additional 7x weekly.

In addition I noticed they're rotating the 788 out/in through YUL on February 27, March 1 and March 6 as well.

AC490 YOW 1555 1650 YUL 788 (22FEB, 27FEB, 01MAR, 06MAR)
AC491 YUL 1930 2022 YOW 788 (27FEB, 01MAR, 06MAR)

The other interesting tidbit about the Rouge MAXes is they will keep the IFE screens installed. So the entire AC fleet will have IFE, save for the Express fleet (which ironically, for the CRJs and ERJs anyways, had it up until about a year ago when they disabled the legacy systems). It has also been rumoured that the Lynx 7M8s will be leaving the fleet by early next year. Unfortunately, it seems they'll stick around long enough to finish the season for YOW sun flying.

I wonder if AC will go with the Rouge 7M8s on YOW's sun program next year, or use a 320 or even a 223, depending how much they want to play ball with Porter. I doubt AC will touch LIR or GCM, but PVR could be a destination they want to compete on given that PD is able to run it 6x weekly. Who knows how many YYZ/YUL connectors they had on it that PD has taken. Going with a 223 would allow them to be more competitive on frequencies with PD - 137 seats on the 223 vs 132 on Porter's E2.

No AF today, which I gather means this is the brief dip to 3x weekly as there was also no Monday departure?

Yeah this week and 30NOV-06DEC are the 3x weeks. As of now, nothing is below 4x post-Christmas.

Speaking of TATL flights operating 3x weekly, AC889 today is full in both PY and J, and AC888 is completely full in all three cabins.

AC889 today was 10/20 J and 19/21 PY. AC888 tonight is full in J and 17/21 PY.

I also see PD has reduced YYC to as low 5x weekly (days x12) from January-April.

Is the 5x weekly the entire Jan-Apr period or sporadic? X2 I can understand but X1 too is odd given it’s a biz travel day. Ironic that YYJ & YYT will have only slightly less capacity.

It's consistently x12, the Monday flight only runs 05JAN, 16FEB (Family Day), 16MAR (March Break) and 30MAR. Surprised it's not Easter Monday in April.

Re YYT/YYJ - the power of having a monopoly on those routes!

Indeed! It's just weird that they're the weakest on the route of the three serving it. It probably also points to YYC being PD's weakest market between YEG, YYC & YVR.

United flights (including the regionals from YOW) now feature free Starlink wifi for mileageplus members. I’m presently posting using this service. It is truly impressive…I’m clocking 400-500mbps down. Even though you’re not supposed to I even did a quick FaceTime seamlessly.

Today's departure count: 80 - not bad for a day with zero transatlantic flights
