This is the former PPG distribution centre in the MID West Industrial Park.

I don't know what Newco was doing, unless they we preparing the building for sale. I drove by the other day, and the for sale sign is still up.

A few capital expenditure nuggets from recent budgetary deliberations by city council:

Quote:
The capital budget includes money to replace Codiac Transpo buses, rebuild St. George Street between Gordon and Cameron streets as part of a multi-phase plan, build a new east-west street in the Humphreys Brook area from Durelle Street to Harrisville Boulevard, and design work to expand the Codiac Transpo garage.
Quote:
The budget also includes $500,000 to purchase land for a park in the Vision Lands, which is an undeveloped part of the city between Wheeler Boulevard and the Trans-Canada Highway.
Quote:
councillors voted to boost spending by $250,000 to $750,000 for traffic calming on city streets. The money next year will come from a council contingency fund.

City staff said the program that adds things like speed bumps or raised crosswalks to slow drivers has been popular. René Lagacé, the city's director of engineering, said the $500,000 that was budgeted would see small sections of long roads, such as Ryan Street and Highlandview Drive, done in 2026.
Quote:
The budget includes $1 million for the first phase of active transportation projects along the Morton and Connaught avenues corridor. It's an area where cyclists have been hit by drivers, and advocates want improved.

In addition to the above, the T&T also noted this:

Quote:
$24.2 million in tourism, culture, and venue improvements, including improvements to Magnetic Hill Zoo facilities and library upgrades.

It should be noted that the 1,015 new residential units created this year would only be for the city of Moncton. It would be interesting to know the number for the entire metropolitan area. Both Dieppe and Riverview have also seen substantial construction this year (especially the Dieppe Blvd and Findlay Park neighbourhoods).

In Riverview, as of the end of the second quarter a total of 273 new housing units were created. A 77% increase in the number of new homes created compared to the same period in 2024.

The building pace has been steady in Riverview, and has possibly even accelerated. Just off the top of my head I can think of at least 10 apartment buildings of various sizes currently under construction. And MoeMar continues to generate semis and single family homes, selling them as fast as they can build them.

And the Dieppe Blvd area is just insane. They are creating a whole new neighbourhood in Origine Village alone. I think there are six large apartment buildings under construction simultaneously at Origine.

For the full four quarters of 2025, for the entire CMA, I would wonder if we will be nearing 2,000 new residential units.

I think so. There'll be a lot of units under construction that were permitted in 2025 that will come on line in 2026.

Hello fellow construction enthusiasts. I made a small (6min) video of various sites around Moncton.
My original plan was to make separate videos but I decided to challenge myself more and actually learn how to use my video editing software(Davinci Resolve).
I think it turned out great and it was fun to make. Still learning though, I hope you enjoy. If you have any criticisms please share as thats how we learn

I hadn't been over to Riverview for around a year (at least other than the coverdale area) and I went over to Mill Creek Park and was blown away by how much that area has taken off in the last year or two. I can remmeber going to the park when that road wasnt even paved!

Then I went over to the Findlay Park area and wow, the Icon development is something to behold as someone who grew up and lived in riverview for many years. That entire area is unrecognizable from 5 years ago.

The agenda for the November meeting of Moncton PAC is now up.

https://www.moncton.ca/en/planning-advisory-committee

For a change, there are multiple items under consideration. Nothing really earth shattering however. The most interesting items deal with the Humphrey Brook neighbourhood. I will post about those on the [Moncton] East thread.

From RentCafe.com:

Canada Renter Interest Report: Moncton, NB, leads in Q3 2025 as Vancouver blazes through the charts
Florin Petrut-October 28, 2025
https://www.rentcafe.com/blog/rental-market/market-snapshots/canada-renter-interest-report/

Quote:
To identify Canada’s top-trending rental markets, we analyzed millions of interactions on RentCafe.com during the third quarter of 2025. Specifically, we focused on four key indicators from Canadian properties listed on our website to rank the cities attracting the most interest from apartment-seekers, including:

- available listings
- listing views
- apartments saved as favourites
- saved personalized searches
Quote:
Moncton, NB, reclaims the top spot as Canada’s most sought-after rental market. The city has overtaken Winnipeg, MB, after advancing one position from the previous quarter, fuelled by sharp increases in renter engagement:

Page views rose 58% year-over-year — the highest increase among all Canadian markets.
Availability fell 53%.
Saved searches remained #1.
Favourited listings hold steady, showing consistent interest from apartment seekers.

These results confirm Moncton’s strong appeal among renters, driven by its affordability, livability and expanding opportunities across Atlantic Canada.

The most interest in apartments in Moncton comes from locals, as well as renters in Halifax, NS; Montréal, QC; and Toronto, ON.
So, strong interest in apartment listings in Moncton, but, availability decreased by 53%. This should be good news for developers interested in building new apartment units in the hub city.

This is more confirmation of how strong the Moncton rental market is, and the low CMHC vacancy rates tell the same story. The three sisters being 95% leased is more evidence of the same thing.

It makes me wonder about St. Bernard's place, and why they would drastically reduce the scale of the building. It's obviously not market conditions, nor the cost of money. I think this developer just doesn't have the appetite to take on the larger project. Unfortunately.

Just because the rental market is hot today doesn't mean there isn't market pressure from other large, expensive buildings like Lafford's properties and Infinity Tower. A six storey building will certainly be more economical to build and with fewer amenities than the larger towers can likely undercut their rent and chase a different part of the market that is less likely to become oversaturated in the next few years.

The developers of this indoor/outdoor ball hockey facility in Saint John hope to break ground on a similar facility in Moncton in two years time;

^^ Something like that would have been great to integrate with the pickleball place going up in Dieppe.
