@sprouting towers; @gillynova; i have been trying in earnest to acquire an update of this LONG-AWAITED indoor football operations facility for some time now. these images are wonderful and much appreciated. HOOK'EM!

The renderings don't show it, but are they going to put up driving range-style nets around that outdoor area? Or at least by the end zones? Just curious. I could see some poor trainer assistant on the bottom of the org chart having to go collect balls after every practice...

EDIT: Upon closer look, I do see a fence. Just had to look on a bigger screen.

That’s what the outdoor practice field is for.
But the designers could delete the red zone portions since the Horns don’t seem to spend much productive time there.

The hospitals haven't announced anything about groundbreakings. That rendering is using an older photo. That white crane was used for the La Vista de Lopez senior housing project on the east side of I-35.

Speaking of the medical center hospitals, UT has scrapped plans to build the hospitals on the former Erwin Center site. They are looking at a site in N. Austin near the Domain instead.

That's interesting. Curious what they have planned for the Erwin Center site now? Also, UT does have a huge tract of land across MoPac from the JJ Pickle Research Campus that's prime for a hospital complex.

The hospitals have had a planned groundbreaking in 2026 since this was announced a couple of years ago.

Hopefully that won't be delayed since they're possibly changing sites

Eltife noted that the total investment for these cornerstone projects of the new medical center is still in the discussion by the regents and is estimated at $2.5 billion. Once approved, the hospitals will be built on the current site of UT Austin’s Erwin Center. The former Longhorns basketball arena will be demolished by fall 2024, and it is anticipated that groundbreaking for the hospitals should begin in 2026.

The KXAN article mentions that the U.T. design team will now be looking at the larger site in North Austin to see if it makes sense. It appears they don't have a project designed yet, so a 2026 groundbreaking is looking less likely.

Also, UT hasn't even filed a site plan yet. They don't need Austin approval for the buildings. But they still need to file a site plan for utilities and site egress/ingress.

Southwest quadrant of Mopac and Braker. At roadside it says West Pickle Research Building 3925 W. Braker Lane. I pass it regularly, yesterday twice.

On Google Earth is says UT's Office of Sponsored Projects. Building complex sits at the corner. To the west is just a grove of trees. I wonder if their land straddles both sides of Stonelake Blvd between Braker and Great Hills Trail. if so that could be a sizeable project. Traffic would be hell.

I believe they own all of it. They spent the last couple of months fencing all of it as well. Makes sense now if they intend to build there.

From what I can find UT owns 109 acres at Pickle West.
