"Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has given a second transformational gift to Winston-Salem State University, a $50 million donation that is the largest single gift in the school’s history.

In 2020, Scott gave the historically Black university $30 million, and the latest contribution raises Scott’s total commitment to $80 million in unrestricted funds."
Huge! I wish WSSU would undertake another building boom. It would be great to have more mid-rise classrooms and dorms along its property that abuts US 52 at Salem Parkway.

I expect the IQ to have aspirational and concept planning and renderings, but they shouldn’t release them until there are concrete plans to actually imminently construct new buildings. What good is yet another master plan when previous renderings never came to fruition? Fantastical Pictures of pipedreams only increases frustration with the IQ.

It's encouraging that the CEO of Advocate Health is touting Phase II in this announcement. He appears to be on board with building it out.

Perhaps, but when will actual construction begin? If it were close to realization, why the soft announcement? There would be more fanfare and construction details if this is about to be built.

Nothing really to add, except I assume the reason that they haven't started construction/announced a building is because they don't have an tenants lined up. Wake Forest can only absorb so much real estate. My thought has always been that the (lack of) an airport is such a limiting factor. As someone who frequently flies, PTI is close but lacking in convenient, direct flights (and tends to be expensive), and as such, I hardly ever fly out of there. It may be helpful for the city to figure out how to have reliable, cheap, easy transportation to and from the Charlotte airport (e.g., buses leaving the iQ to CLT hourly from 5AM-9AM on weekdays, and again from 3PM-5PM, no cost or low cost to passengers). If you could market these sites as having a direct connection to the CLT airport, you may see more traction. And at a cost of perhaps a few hundred thousand dollars per year - certainly not a huge financial commitment.

Forsyth commissioners receive $2.65 million offer to buy former Hall of Justice building

LOL agreed! Get what you can but hopefully the group buying it has a track record. Would be huge to get that large block of space activated in some way. I would have thought the BB&T building would be the easier building to repurpose given the smaller floorplates, plus it has underground parking, but it's been sitting for a while.

Truliant sells Winston-Salem headquarters, Hanes Mall site for almost $90M
Truliant CEO says the deal will free up equity for high-priority initiatives and provide more liquidity for what he calls "anticipated transformative" projects. The credit union made a particularly healthy profit on one property it purchased during the pandemic, selling it for more than five times the 2020 purchase price.

A Winston-Salem startup that creates personalized medical devices using 3D printing technology is adding lab space and jobs in IQ as it works to develop five specific products that could help surgeons and cancer patients. Ricoh 3D for Healthcare expands Winston-Salem lab by 450 square feet. The expansion will create six jobs and university research partnerships.
