No surprise YVR-TPA is gone, I was shocked when WS airline launched it, and then AC followed. Felt very flimsy, and seemed weird that it was summer seasonal and not winter seasonal. Alaska cruise traffic is a stretch for two carriers. Never feels great losing a unique destination, but gotta look on the bright side. We waited forever to get Miami service back, and now it's year round 4x weekly (back in the early 2000s it was only once weekly on Saturdays for at least one year I worked there). I think the TPA frequency went to MIA actually, but not sure. Either way, I would take strengthening Miami over TPA any day.

More WS Transborder route cuts for S26:

YEG/YWG-BNA are outright dropped, and YVR-BNA was removed until September.

I think we can guess what will be in the S26 schedule, as far as where the capacity goes -

Look for capacity into YHZ, possibly YYT, and connections east

I believe it was the abandoned YVR-TPQ that ended up being shifted to YVR-MIA.

Add in some weather GDP's at YUL, ORD, MCO and SAN, and the whole continent is a mess.

Either way, doesn't bode well for the route. Don't know of a single route that operates in the summer shoulder seasons but not in July-August. Do you?

Flair in the past operated several routes like that. For instance, YVR-LAS, YEG-BNA

Interesting - the schedule change showed it removed right through September but I do see it loaded outside of July / August.

I suspect it will be eventually fully removed.

It’s been corrected now.

I also see YYZ-BNA has been reduced, while YYC-BNA appears to be getting increased.

Apparently YUL-DEL/TLV have been removed from S26 schedules. That frees up 6x weekly 787 slots.

Maybe it got sent to YVR? Or rather, YVR not returning it after the winter schedule finishes in late Aprils

I still wonder where they will find the plane to run YVR-BKK for the summer, or that single weekly YVR-HNL widebody. I was thinking of the XLR conversion, but that doesn't seems nearly enough as most of the widebody saved were already redeployed to other services.

Will AC satisfied for letting AI fly most of the services to DEL? Or maybe they found a way to actually make YVR-DEL work again, similar to YYZ-PVG?

🞵🞵🞵🞵 show is generous, there's multi hours flights being flown at under 10000 feet because of upper airspace capacity being reached, and some towers operating with 1 or 2 controllers where there should be 10 plus. Im absolutely shocked that nothing tragic has happened yet. I have to give major props to those controllers still showing up. Not to mention the 3.5 hours delays at Newark where pax where sitting on the plane just to go back to the gate after because pilots timed out or fuel burn etc.

Trump is floating the idea of a $10,000 bonus for the ATC staff who still showed up during the shutdown and they more than deserve it after dealing with this nightmare.

As posted in another forum, just noticed AC got a daily slot back from OS:

The slot was originally used for the second daily YVR flight, and the flight number 862/863 matches it.

So what's AC's plan?

1. Restart second daily flight from YVR
2. Start flight from other city in Western Canada (ie. YEG?)
3. Increase YOW to daily and YYZ/YUL to 4/2 daily (although the slot more suitable for the West as it means 1:30am YYZ departure, or 2am YUL departure)
4. Restart YYT-LHR (again, timing is not suitable)
5. Launch LHR-DEL to compensate the loss of YUL-DEL
6. Lease to NZ for them to run AKL-YVR-LHR
7. Lease to another airline?

For a time the split the slot between Edmonton and Vancouver. That would be an option. Way back in the 90s it was used for a Winnipeg flight. While doing something creative like that would be good, I have a strange felling they will do something boring and just run a second daily YVR flight.

Air Canada wants to be profitable, not creative. The model from the 90's is dead. Its all about your hubs today, and Air Canada will maximize all of its hubs. The timing of this slot looks to be best for Western Canada, if thats the case its going to YVR.
Calgary is a good corporate market, and has some feed for Air Canada. Edmonton has essentially 0. Vancouver is a real hub and work off connections across Western Canada and Western USA plus o&d.


*Unless someone throws a big subsidy at AC.
