I guess that is one way to look at it. Certainly construction is a very small part of what JDI does (and as far as I know IOL is not involved in construction at all). So, if JDI has a cafeteria in their office building, that would make them the largest food service company in Atlantic Canada?

I guess it depends on your definition of construction, Jake.

Again, can you name a single corporation or conglomerate based in Atlantic Canada that is larger than JDI or Irving Oil?

I'd say all the JDI owned companies listed below are related to construction and/or homebuilding:

As for if JDI has cafeterias, and if that makes them a food services company or not, I'd say that's quite a far fetched example to throw out there

Plus, beyond JDI, the Irvings are involved in construction in a lot of different companies under Ocean Capital.

So yeah, I think it's valid to say that JDI and the Irvings have been heavily involved in NB construction for a a very long time.

I think it would be good to see them do more in terms of construction and property development in the city that they call home.

So two days short of a full month from first panels going up on the first floor to panels starting to go up on the second story.

Hopefully things will speed up significantly as they get going or fall 2026 occupancy will be more like fall 2026 topped off and closed in.

The windows are pre-installed on this next level. The ground floor must be non-standard and installed at a later date.

Interesting. I had wondered about that when the first floor came without windows.

Just took this on my way out of work. Light isn't great, but it should be easier to see when they do the King Street side.

From a different angle. Nice to see windows. Unsure of that imperfection

The "first floor" (as viewed from Charlotte) included a lower level as well, so that doesn't seem too bad of a pace if you consider it was not only the first panels but included two floor levels of precast panels as well.

I do like that it matches the City Market... wonder what the non brick floors are actually going to look like.

Definitely feel like it looks better than the renders so far, ignoring the "blemishes" and seams.

Is the pedway over to the market still part of the plan? I don't think I have seen that mentioned for a long time.

That was scrapped in June 2024. A few design changes went before council a year ago including changing the pedway to a smaller canopy aligning with the city market entrance/exit on South Market Street.

It never occurred to me that there would be an alley between this build and the building next to it on King. Of course it makes sense. Otherwise there would be no windows on that side of the apartments on the first 3-4 floors.

A view of a crumbling brick wall 10 feet away is very big city chic.....very New York-ish.

I hope something is done with the alley and it isn't gated or blocked off. The alleys Uptown are some of my favourite places and we so rarely get new ones.

The east facade of 75 King needs some serious masonry work. It's of no particular significance, maybe it'll come down too someday. You could probably do a 6-floor, 20-30-unit building on this side pretty easily.

56 feet of street frontage on two sides, 5,500 sf footprint...

The National Bank building to the west (and its awful cladding) is only 2 floors high, so windows could easily go above it.
