Air Canada announced that a round of layoffs will affect about one per cent of its staff as the airline looks to slim down its operations.

According to its corporate profile, as of 2023, Air Canada employed around 90,900 people across the country. An airline representative confirmed news of the layoffs in an email statement to Daily Hive...

That's a really sloppy article. They're also about 50,000 too high for AC's employment numbers.

Other news outlets are saying the layoffs are 400 management positions.

Traffic to the US is down, the economy in the US is slowing. Exactly how that impacts Canada is to be determined.

They may also be able to benefit from AI and other automation to reduce staffing.

WS has extended GDL/MZT to year-round. This brings them to 6 year-round destinations in Mexico.

MZT has been served in the summer before, but GDL must be doing well if they've already extended it out before it even launches.

Looks like YWG-CUN and YYZ-POP were also extended to year-round.

F8 summer 2026 route additions:

YQM-YYZ 3x weekly ops days 135 from 15MAY26 to 23OCT26
YUL-YVR 6x weekly ops X3 from 16APR26 to 17JUN26 & 14SEP26 to 24OCT26 and daily in between those dates

And it looks like YYT-YYZ is coming back too but nothing is bookable yet on their website.

YQM will now be served by seven airlines (Air Canada, WestJet, Porter, PAL, Flair, SunWing and Air Transat). That's not too bad.

Six as Sunwing the airline no longer exists. Sunwing the tour operator still exists who now in-turn charter WS aircraft. Like Swoop, some aircraft are still painted in the Sunwing livery.

Looks like OS is keeping the B763 on YUL for a bit longer.

All these year-round route extensions are 1x weekly over the summer months: https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/251028-wsns26int

This will give YWG year-round international pax counts again for the first time in years.

Looks TS are banking on their recently inked codeshare agreement with TK paying off as they're going to be increasing YYZ-IST next summer from 2x to 3x weekly.

They're also going to be increasing YYZ-LIM and YYZ-BER by 1x/wk each to 3x weekly and YUL is gaining a new route - a weekly summer seasonal YUL-AGA route commencing 12JUN26.

Speaking of TS, based on CTA filings yesterday and today, expect TS codeshares (most likely on TK) to Lebanon, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to be announced soon.

Did not read original quotes post carefully, didn't realize the CTA filing was about codeshares.

Someone updated the YYC wiki page to add a bunch of new non-exisiting routes:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calgary_International_Airport#Airlines_and_destinations

AC/DL to SEA and WS to Everett/Bellingham. Someone seems to think there is a ton of demand for Washington state.

The only one of those I could possibly see being true is WS to DFW.

(And yes I know anyone can edit Wiki pages).

Ishrion aviation is reporting that Connect Airlines will fly from YKF to various North American destinations using a crj200.

I wonder if TK will reduce there toronto flights with TS adding YYZ so they could add a couple more flights to vancouver or montreal?

WS to YFB is actually more believable than AC re-adding SEA.

Maybe I'll go add DXB just to be messy.

Remember when even the Calgary Herald posted an article about WS and Dubai....and everyone thought WS was launching DXB?
