My workbench is only 48x24" with some drawers.

I'll see myself out.

You're being very generous calling them "environmentalists". It's more like they don't want their literal environment to change. They don't care (nor do they understand) sustainable living. They would rather 1000 single family homes decimate farmland in manor than 1000 housing units go up on an industrial site where people have easy access to bus and bike lanes to mitigate car usage.

I very much agree that I was being generous. The group suing - PODER - was using an SOS lawyer and mainly citing environment concerns. But here is their director's statement on their mission:

"The struggle of our ancestors continues to resound. The ancestral memory of humanity, the legacy of the Indigenous Peoples of the world strengthens us and gives us a mandate. The emergence of a new sun, the arrival of a moment of equilibrium even amidst the climate chaos crisis, the generational struggle against institutionalized injustices, colonization, genocide, and terracide, calls us to synchronize ourselves in an agenda of self-determination and healing as Original Nations of Mother Earth.

Like the weather, 2024 had its share of highs and lows. Life provides unlimited challenges. In 2024, we faced our share at PODER but we kept our focus and forward momentum. We expect those challenges to escalate in 2025 but they are what give environmental justice organizations like ours its purpose."

So true. The affordable RU aspect is fantastic, but that means a lot of architectural corners will be cut.
I have made a couple disparaging remarks about the "beauty" of this project on my X account. Someone connected to the project then said my "character was questionable" due to my opinion. LOL

I initially read "85-story" and not "85-foot"...I need to slow down sometimes.

Hello! Long-time lurker, first time poster. It looks like this project is gearing up again. Curious if anyone here had any additional info on this one

Drummer I did the exact same thing. Maybe we're just gearing up for something that tall proposed elsewhere. *Cough* old post office *Cough*

( I don't know anything that would point to that, just wishful thinking)

I heavily appreciate the design of the 1100 East Fifth proposal.

The existing structure is the Fair Market, which is a very simple corrugated metal barn with a series of barrel roofs. The base is clearly a nod to preserve that design typology when the original structure simply is not worth preserving.

I agree - this one is nice looking. I like the arches on the bottom in addition to the texture that you're talking about.

it's nice, but the fair market is a net loss for the city. so many events are held there that attract tons of people.

I don't think that Fair Market project is on the table anymore. At best it's on hold. The site plan was approved two years ago, and I remember reading that it wasn't moving forward as planned. Architects quite often don't update project status on their websites after the renderings are posted.

Venues like this are easily replaceable. They come and go. This one has been open since 2014, in a warehouse dating to 1952.

Yeah, Fair Market is literally just a warehouse. Kinda sucks for events too...especially in the summer.
