Wow, so cool! Thanks for sharing!

I feel like the exteriors of the Cosm building, the retail building and the hotel will be largely completed by the World Cup in June of next year; but I wonder about the music venue, since it hasn't started going vertical yet.

It was reported earlier this year that the entire exterior of the entertainment district would be complete prior to the World Cup, so that its public space could be utilized for the festivities.

Their goal is to actually open Cosm by the World Cup.

This is quite the mega-project to watch go up. I wonder if there is any long-form media being produced on this project.

Pretty soon COSM, the retail building and the hotel will all be finished externally, and then its full speed ahead on the music venue.

With this major phase wrapping up in another 12-18 months, I imagine we should get an announcement for the next big phase in the next year or so. The only other thing currently on the docket is the small hotel on Mitchell.

In a normal time, I'd agree with you. But this isn't a normal time. It took 2 years to permit the small hotel. The way things are going, we may not live in the same country in 2 years.

I believe there is a time limit on the tax incentives, so they have an incentive to push forward. I’m sure interest is low right now so they may not be able to build as much as they would like. Hopefully the residential portion will have high demand. Does anyone know if there are any grocery options in this area?

The new Azalea Market in the Olympia building at Five Points is the only one right in downtown. They just opened a couple of weeks ago. There is also a Publix in Midtown and one in Summerhill. There was a Walmart in the Vine City/Westside Village area but I am not sure if it's open anymore.

In the most recent interview, Brian McGowan said that they are planning to break ground on the apartments on Mitchell Street this year as well.

They haven't made an announcement but McGowan also said that they are eager to develop the block in the center below. He mentioned some sort of easement issue that makes it preferable for them to build on this site next.

It also appears is some of their leasing materials.

Filling that gap in behind the Russell would be nice. When you say "Mitchell Street Apartments", where do you mean exactly?

I know this is a little tangential, but the site behind the stadium in that first photo (where the "orange deck" currently is), makes sense for a high rise. I don't understand why the GWCC Authority wants to completely build over the Olympic plaza when they could put retail facing the plaza in a new building instead. The upper floors of such a building could be a great place for news and sports coverage, with a birds' eye view of the stadium, Philips Arena and downtown.

I have a whole "alternate plan" for that site. I think they're blowing a major opportunity. Wish I could find a way to present it somehow.

Is it the 222 Mitchell St. building that was already proposed to be converted from an office building into apartments?

Oh gross. No. They haven't even finished the Norfolk Southern building and now they want to hide it from view with a 5-over-1? They need to finish work on the N-S building, or 222 Mitchell. They are just sitting there, fully gutted and prepped for construction.

I get the goal they're going for; they're trying to activate the entire stretch of Mitchell, and at least one side of MLK, between the stadium and South Downtown, as soon as possible. That is a laudable goal and I get why they're moving to develop these sites first.

But I don't feel like a 5-over-1 is a good use for that plot of land because of the history of the N-S building and its importance to the railroad.

They're obviously looking for a "quick fix" for this site. I've got a better idea. An elevated plaza park that goes between Mitchell, Nelson (Steele Bridge) and Trinity. And beneath it, hide a couple of floors of parking, and add some retail on the ground floor, facing the N-S building. This would be a pretty simple project; it'd complete the below-street level portion of the N-S complex as a "mall" area, leave the view of the N-S building, provide extra parking for the eventual hotel conversion of the northern section of the N-S building, and provide an open park area for South Dosntown & Castleberry Hill, which has no parks.

222 Mitchell is a different development group from CIM/Centennial Yards; it was part of the South Downtown portfolio and I believe is owned by them (but may still be tied up in liens against the building accrued during the Newport ownership).

Love this! For the hotel, it looks like after they finish the floor that they're currently working on, there are two more to go and then it's topped out.

I believe so! Also looks like good progress is being made on the viaduct level streets they are adding.

Its kind shame the hotel wont be ready in time for the World Cup as I understand. If they could have just started moving 6 months sooner, it would be good to go.
