The condo building was developed by Concert Properties in 2007. It was called Tapestry, and has 230 condo units in two buildings. About 40% of the 1949-1952 Student Nurses' Residence was incorporated into the new building. I don't think there was a tunnel under 12th Avenue.

Spring 2025 newsletter from the VGH SCHOOL OF NURSING ALUMNAE ASSOCIATION says there was a tunnel.

Quote:
Wednesday morning was a highlight of the reunion - a very special tour of the Alumnae archive/office, Heather Pavilion, Centennial Pavilion, (nowThe Blackmore Pavilion) and even a walk through the tunnels. Sadly, the tunnel to the student nurses’ residence was closed.
https://www.vghnursingschoolalumnae.com/...-BOD-info-on-last-page-AV_compressed.pdf

And this:

Quote:
In 1968 I was a student nurse. My room at “The Res” was on 3North. It was near the start to the tunnel which
went to Heather and Centennial Pavilion.

EDIT: I noticed some hatched line on some of those district street maps but this image seems to explain why there was a tunnel under 12th Ave since the laundry was over there.

there are actually 2 Tunnels under 12th, south to the hospital.

the one shown on the above map is NOT the nurses tunnel. the Nurses tunnel is to the east, connecting to the nurses building as noted U/C. (i know both exist, i have seen the engineered drawings for them both)

2405 E Broadway, the long demolished gas station site at Nanaimo. 1.2 FSR proposal under the existing zoning.

Quote:
Development of the approximately 17,000sf site, currently zoned C-1, utilizing the existing zoning regulations. The proposed scheme, based on the Design Enquiry submission, will include approximately 7,600sf of commercial space at grade, at-grade parking accessed from the laneway, and eleven, 2-storey, 3-bedroom townhomes above, resulting in a total buildable area of approximately 21,000sf.

I guess someone recently bought it. Imperial still owned it as of 2023 (?)

A steady pace of low rise mixed use (retail at street level) buildings accumulating along Nanaimo Street. I presume there will be more incentive (FSR) to build along Nanaimo once the Villages Plan is implemented in the Summer of 2026.

The townhome stock is needed, and it should become a nice commercial road over time hopefully reflecting Commercial Drive. These are subtlety some of the best developments in the city.

I assume this is Vancouver Volkswagen relocating from Main Street and not a new dealer franchise?

I wish they would have considered wind-blown rain in designing the PNE Amphitheatre.
(Same type of architects who design bus shelters without walls)

The Budweiser Stage at Ontario Place was just announced to be redeveloped into the RBC Amphitheatre with year-round capability - it'll have glass panels that will open up to a grassy slope in summer and close off in winter. I know that wouldn't account for sudden changes in weather, but you can see that the main part of the Budweiser Stage is already enclosed with glass on the sides.
