According to this article, AC/UA/LH are applying to add AZ to the transatlantic JV: https://simpleflying.com/united-air-canada-us-government-ita-airways-joint-venture/

Doing so would turn FCO into a full-fledged Star hub. If that were to happen, down the road something like a 3-4x weekly summer seasonal YHZ/YOW-FCO on the XLR could maybe become feasible in the next 5 years, especially given how hot a destination Rome has become.

In this weeks update, WS has increased YYC-YUL to 8x weekly from December-April. Guessing this is partially to move planes through YUL for Sunwing flying.

-Also hearing they're adding a seasonal YQB base for winter flying too.

Air Serbia planning to launch YYZ on a summer seasonal basis as of May 2026.
2x weekly service, which is the bilateral limit.

Let’s see if the Trump administration will approve this. So far, as far as JV’s are concerned, their track record is -1.

One thing in the *A JV's favour is none of their European hubs are slot and access restricted unlike AMS and MEX.

YYC August stats are out.

Domestic: 1,432,449 +10.4% (YTD: 8,779,173 +4.83%)
Transborder: 420,913 +1.2% (YTD: 2,620,974 0%)
International: 232,476 +7.5% (YTD: 1,731,882 +5.24%)
August 2025 total: 2,085,838 +8.1%

2025 YTD: 13,132,029 +3.88%

Over 4 million for July/August alone. Wonder if YYC ended up benefitting from the AC strike as WS took on more pax? Seems Transborder is basically holding flat.

2025 has been a great year for YYC so far.

Definitely picks up some passengers from YVR. Traditionally YVR have more passengers in August compared to July. This year is the first time since the record started in 1992 where July have higher passenger count.

August 2025: 2,647,527 (3rd highest)
July 2025: 2,661,953 (all-time high)

If there is no strike, YVR August number should be around 2.70M to 2.74M.

So YVR likely lost about a day worth of passengers due to the strike, but still on pace to be a record this year assuming there's no further strike action during the last 4 months...

Yes, since the Covid19 pandemic - Calgary YYC airport ✈️ has seen an increase of connecting passengers from Vancouver YVR/ Western US✅.

From the 21st of May to the 8th October, Air Transat will fly 1X weekly on Thursdays YQB-MRS.

I'm glad we'll get a new direct flight but it won't provide as many connections as what their now discontinued YQB-LGW flight did last year. Marseille, Bordeaux and Nantes all used to have a direct flight from YQB back in 2008-2010 but there aren't that many option to go further once there, especially to Central and Eastern Europe.

But with Air France connecting YQB-CDG (returning next year), this is not an issue. Air France offers approximately 170 destinations from CDG, and having tried it a few times, the prices are quite competitive, especially considering the quality of service and the fact that you fly on a Boeing 777-300 with over 400 seats. It's not the same service as on a single-aisle Airbus 321, which is half the size.

Every time I've taken this flight, it's been almost full.

YVR got hit too but not quite as bad. Will be interesting to see the fallout at YYZ.

It seems like YYC may have benefited from the strike on Domestic and International traffic. Those had good sized increases. Not a lot of change on Transborder.
