How many times can one project be appealed and reappealed? Is there not a point at which this amounts to municipal zoning "lawfare"?

Anyone know who owns the big parking lot at Gertrude/Osborne? I saw a surveyor out today and was wondering if there are plans afoot.

It's a huge lot and could accommodate a pretty big development. Anyone know anything?

I noticed 2 or 3 guys working and a concrete truck the other day on the new white prison building going up at Confusion Corner. At this rate we should lay bets at man hours and time it will take to complete this project and Sutton Hotel.

I hope it's not the same three guys building both the confusion corner and Sutton buildings.

Are you talking about the lots east of Osborne on Gertrude?

What about the lot at the NW corner of Stradbrook and Osborne?

The lot that used to be a paved parking lot that the City had up for sale a few years back and was finally dug up for soil remediation last year - and is now a gravel parking lot.

Does anyone know what's happening with that site. That lot and the peeling mural and boarded up windows on the old Basil's building just north of it are painful to look at.

Thanks for clarifying! I'd love to see that lot get filled in.

To my knowledge, that lot has been purchased, and is slated for further development. I'm not sure about timelines or designs, but there will be a building there eventually.

This project has been rejected again at the Appeals Committee. It seems that some minor changes were made since the last development application was rejected in the spring and the committee felt those changes weren't significant enough to allow the project to move forward.

It — that we’ve going to see a weed filled lot at that corner for the next five years instead of a building. I haven’t followed this one closely…is there a major zoning breach or is the developer/planner being difficult?

A little blocky/square but overall looks nice. Probably going in on the vacant lot at 526 Wardlaw (south side of the street, just east of Nassau).

That house has looked sad for a long time. I have always found the sign out front funny: BISTRO Licensed - smoking - dining

Street view

Anyone know what was there when it was a Bistro? lol

It used to be called Bobbie's Bistro in the early 00's. They moved eventually to St. Marys Road. It's been several different eateries since, but not sure when it stopped being one.

Weird. I remember the old gym on the NE corner (now the Paragon multi-unit building) when it was a place called Braemar Bakery in the early 2000s - restaurant by day and Caribbean themed after hours club by night...but I don't remember there ever being a bistro on the NW corner. I wonder when it was there?

Thank you!! I have always wondered about it. I looked the restaurant up and it looks like it closed on St. Mary's between 2009 and 2012.

Bobbie's was owned and ran by the Klops. Serving delicious European and Romanian cuisine. I am guessing from mid 90's until mid 2000's when they moved to a larger permise as mentioned, in the 700 block of St Marys Rd for about a half dozen years.
