That’s great! Helps WS WestJet with building its “Fortress Hub” in Canada✅.

It looks like (AC) Air Canada *New* Boeing 787 Dreamliner 10 fleet of planes ✈️ will be based at Toronto YYZ 1st to support AC’s YYZ hub & international flights /expansion. As the AC 787-10 has lot of premium seats 42J 28W and 262 Y according to Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Canada_fleet

I’m sure as AC gets more deliveries of 787-10 they will rotate some of it to operate international flights from Vancouver YVR & Montreal YUL AC hubs & even on the Calgary YYC- London LHR UK route too (seasonally) ✅.

Bomb threat. 4Y has since departed to FRA/MUC but Condor is still on the ground and now delayed until tomorrow.

Early days of course but summer 2026 intl airlines breakdown as follows:

4Y daily FRA (daily resumes mid April) and 3pw MUC (resumes 2 May)
KL daily AMS (daily year-round)
DE 4pw FRA (resumes 25 May)
WK 3pw ZRH (ops 22 May - 13 Sep)

US carriers about 20-21 daily

UA 9 IAH(2) ORD(2) DEN(2) SFO(2) IAD(1)
AA 4-5 DFW(2) ORD(2) CLT(4pw) LGA(1pw)
DL 4 MSP(2) SLC(2)
AS 3 SEA

Also AC changing gauge on LHR next summer to a 333 instead of 789. Pretty much a wash in capacity

Calgary – London Heathrow eff 01MAY26 A330-300 service maintained, instead of initially filed 787-9, 1 daily
Source: Aeroroutes
Actually effective 29 March as per the previous change

And as mentioned AC maintaining the one daily EWR 320

So that pretty much sums up everything non-WS on the intl front

KLM reducing capacity next summer

Amsterdam – Calgary Initially filed 787-10 revised to following, 1 daily
29MAR26 – 30AUG26 A330-200/-300
eff 31AUG26 777-200ER/787-10

https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/250922-klns26inc

For the April - August period 6 weekly 333s and 1 weekly 332 - a reduction of
approx 210 seats per week

With this change and the AC recent change on LHR all non-WS European flights will be on A330s next summer except for the 3 weekly Edelweiss flights on A350s. Wow.

Yes & S26 Calgary YYC will see upwards of 6-7+ Airbus A330 service both international long haul on Air Canada , KLM , Condor , Discover Airlines & along with AC (domestic service : from Montreal YUL /Toronto YYZ).

While WestJet is the only Boeing 787 action YYC will see most of next Summer on international long haul / AC 787 domestic service from YYZ/ YUL & Vancouver YVR- (until KLM 787-10 returns end of August).

And few times weekly Airbus A350 by Edelweiss Air / KLM 777-200ER.

YYC is still doing okay.

Much of it due to those extra directs to Rome, Barcelona and Paris. I've used KLM to go to Paris and Barcelona in the past, but the last two trips to Europe were direct on Westjet.

So a tad more AC widebody action alongside the daily 788 LHR and daily 789 YUL. YYZ continues to be all narrowbodies of all sizes from 223s to 321s

All up approx 19 daily mainline AC domestic - including the narrow bodies 4 321s, 6 7M8s, 3 320s and 5 223s

21 total mainline with LHR and EWR still being maintained. EWR switching from a 320 to a Max

Plus 11 domestic Express - 3 on CR9s
A few more minor AC winter changes with a tweak here and there but

YUL’s 789 has been wound back to 4x per week starting in January for the remaining winter schedules - all remaining YUL flights on 223s

Does anyone really care about AC in YYC anymore? They become more and more insignificant every season. They drop WS and other airlines increase.

Westjet continues to squeeze the vice

The strength of WS at YYC really doesn’t make it easy for other carriers to add much

Not sure any other carriers are actually increasing at YYC?

The only examples I can think of are UA's IAD, and also AA with ORD (making it year round). Otherwise, not much really. Unless you consider DE's increases this summer and next summer and WK bumping up to 3x weekly last summer (or the summer before?)

AA has been continuously increasing adding CLT & LGA and extending ORD, Condor added an extra frequency. WK added more seats next year too.

In 2026, AA has extended both CLT/LGA to resume in mid-May instead of June.

So really only the odd extra weekly flight or two
Condor was 4 weekly in 2019 as well
I don’t envision any new carriers adding service but you never know!

Condor was a 767 back in 2019, the current 339 has about 50 more seats per flight so still an increase in capacity.

And it’s not just about frequency. AA ran 2x 319 / 2x E75 back in 2019 but now run an all mainline operation (in the summer) with 321 / 738 and 7M8 and 2 additional destinations. UA is also an all mainline op when they’ve previously ran Express E75s to SFO and DEN.

Well I agree WS is the dominant player here. Out of 107 destinations, WS serves 99 of them, but they aren’t the only ones making moves. In 2025, 4 airlines added new routes to YYC.

I also agree we won’t see any new foreign airline in 2026. Maybe if WS signs a full codeshare with SAS they could come (but that’s more likely wishful thinking).
