An amended motion was passed for staff to report back on proceeding with a 50m training pool without the leisure pool, and for a leisure pool to be included in a phase 2 of the renewal.

Great news!! Many of us avid swimmers signed this petition, glad to see it was a productive effort!

They'll just come back in a month and say there's no funding for this option. Seems like it was just a "we tried" vote.

Really confused by the renders. Are they really spending 170 million to keep the shell of the old bunker and cover the concrete with wood panelling? Assuming not... then what a waste! The existing building is hardly an architectural form worth replicating. In a city where most buildings are too fussy and not simple/iconic enough in form, this is literally the only time I'd advocate for the opposite. This building should expand right up to Burrard Bridge and meander around the trees to be as big as possible and fit many terraces and revenue-generating cafes to take in the view.

However, I love the material palette of the wood and forest green tile, and wish more buildings in the West Coast were a similar vibe:

Sadly, it doesnt quite mean that a 50m pool will go through. They have a month to come up with a plan B with a 50m pool and if there's nothing that works then it'll revert back to the recommended 25m plan.

People need to continue to seek more signatures for the petition and more support from Vancouver residents and keep pressing the city and board to ensure a 50m pool is what is approved in a months time. The fight isnt over.

So I'm not clear if this new design will accommodate a 50m pool or not?

The Park Board and City Council approved 25m lanes, that's what will be built.

The project data from the shape your city page lists the lap pool at 562m^2 which works out to eight 2.8m by 25m lanes.
Other pools are a 343m^2 leasure pool, a 227m^2 hot pool, and a 279m^2 dive pool.

Pretty much the only way 50m gets built is if the process gets delayed long enough for a new Park Board to cancel the 25m.

Or the condo market recovers and a lot of CAC money appears.
