I got home late tonight, now sitting outside at 1am under a full moon and clear skies, 22 degrees, light winds, crickets extra loud with the warm temperature. This time it's actually the end of summer. Today's high was 27.5 with a humidex of 32 and a low of 19.3.

Harvest Moon and first supermoon of 2025.
Also clear night here on the Westcoast, waiting on the Full Moon to make its apperance here in a few hours.

Thanks! I want to get back out onto the bridges before the nasty weather sets in.

Monday was a beautiful day around Vancouver. Sunny, dry, fresh.

Waking up to 15C before the sun is even up? I'll take it.

Edit: Transit has gotten so much busier this summer. Curious to see it we get another 25%+ jump in ridership. Metrobus does credit some of it to youth and young professionals wanting to live car-free downtown, but they also cite a large and growing population of working poor in an unequal economy

But it's a nice mix waiting for the bus these days. Lots more pedestrians - and all types, not just people with visible addictions issues.

I think it's the car market. There's nothing cheap anymore. New, used, old beaters. It's all beyond the means of most.

Those beaches look wonderful and its so cool you made it out to Point Pelee. I've always wanted to go there myself.

Love the Prickly Pear Cacti as well. It's always cool seeing cacti where you wouldn't expect them (they grow on beaches and dry outcroppings on Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands as well).
Thanks. And I’ve always wanted to see the West and East but haven’t been past Sudbury and Quebec City. Just plugging away at my own province in the meantime.

Doing construction on my street and even had the porta potty on my lawn for three days. I just gave up and didn’t water the lawn for a month then. It was half brown. It was worse than in these photos.

September 9th I decided dethatch with the machine and overseed and water everyday.

Low of 14C this morning. Very chilly considering it was 30C the previous day. But it was a dry heat and nights are now longer than days so expected.

The warmspot was Kouchibouguac, NB at 31.1C.

Warmest low was Laterriere, QC at 20.8C. Let's see if it holds.

Turns out yesterday's highs were enough to break the provincial heat record.

https://x.com/ThierryGooseBC/status/1975008237989790039/photo/2

PEI broke the provincial record with 28.7C today while NB tied it (31.1C).

🞵🞵🞵 🞵🞵🞵🞵 I love this. I wish Middle Island was open to visitors.
I picked the perfect weekend for a Quebec visit. Not often you can be in the Laurentians during peak fall colours and it's 27 and sunny outside!

Damn at those Point Pelee pics. It looks like a really underrated spot in Ontario.

We booked an airbnb on Pelee Island a few years ago and ended up having to cancel it for various reasons - never got around to rebooking. Really gotta book it, looks like a great little weekend getaway.

Prickly Pear are hardy. There are some growing in Gibbons on a south-facing slope of a river valley, which is 34 km north of Downtown Edmonton. I had no idea they could survive up here - I knew Drumheller had them in the Badlands, but did not know they also grew north of that.

Yeah. They generally don't go beyond the windowsill but I have had a few chickadees and a pigeon come fully inside and explore the whole house lol

That woodpecker looks like a flicker, they destroy my siding and jackhammer on the metal furnace vent on my roof at 5am. Not a fan of those birds... lol

Yep! They are tough little guys!

They are also found on dry south facing slopes in the Peace District of northern BC. I believe that is their most northerly extent.

Yeah looks like a flicker. I’ve seen them like maybe five times. The most popular her by far is the downie and then the pileated.

They're cute but almost nothing behind the eyes. Even chickadees and pigeons just look more intelligent. And both are nothing compared to the Bluejays, let alone crows, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if flickers are genetically very primitive.
