Latitude's got nothing to do with it - after all, Vancouver still has a milder climate overall than Toronto despite being further north (and has a shorter winter & earlier spring). Seasonal lag is the bigger culprit here: in general and all else being equal, the further east you go in North America the later the seasons change.

In Vancouver, December is the coldest time of year; while in Toronto it's late January/early February - so things cool down a little faster in a Vancouver fall; but the flip side of that is spring in Toronto doesn't get going until a few months later.

Warning! for anyone with OCPD ... Vancouver House is not completed yet, there is a cladding panel missing or I should say, never was installed,13 floors down from the top, on the right side.
I'm waiting to see it installed for a celebratory photo that I can post

For fall colour here you have to head to the Canadian Shield for peak fall, or even past peak. The colder nights are what does it. The shallow rocky soil doesn't hold heat like areas further south.

Beautiful day. Gould Lake.

No question Niagara-on-the-Lake was definitely in summer mode, about where Vancouver was three to four weeks ago. It did look more lush probably because of more frequent summer precip.

FYI, the house in the last photo is for sale for $2.2 million if anyone's interested.

Indeed, I just got back from Ontario a couple days ago myself. Still summery in the city - low-to-mid 20s & very humid. Much more colourful to the north though - these are from about a week ago, near Huntsville:

The colours do seem somewhat subdued this year though. Apparently the unusually dry summer they had has stressed the trees, resulting in brown-ish hues and fewer bright reds & oranges.

22C (humidex of 23) and sunny. Gorgeous.

Low of 8C this morning. Leftover of yesterday's drier day.

The warmspot was Emerson, MB at 30.2C. Very strong last day of heat in Manitoba. Could be the last 30C of the year. Unless Windsor says otherwise.

Warmest low was Western Island, ON at 16.4C.

A massive polar vortex style cold wave is hitting Central/Eastern Europe. Some snow fell in cities even at lower elevation.
For example Kraljevo, Serbia had a high of 4.2C yesterday (with snow). That would be BELOW their January avg high (4.7C). The city is warmer than Windsor in October on average.
Sofia and Pristina among capitals that saw flakes.

How about this for fall colours (colour)? This was yesterday in Clifford, ON, which is in Wellington County. Not sure I’ve seen such a contrast before. I think the pumpkins are feeding the tree.

If you wanna have the beach to yourself then go on a weekday in October. Just hope that it will be a glorious 26 degrees. Will be even warmer the next two days but you’ll have to share the beach with upwards of a two dozen people.

Trees here in Gatineau do not seem as bright this fall. This summer was quite dry.

16C and sunny in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 20C this afternoon with a 60% chance of showers.

Wildcats home opener this evening. The highlight will be the banner raising for the QMJHL championship we won last year. It's always weird to go to hockey games early in the season wearing just t-shirts and light pants.

New Brunswick says "hi."

A warming trend here in the east over the next few days. Moncton will be 28C on Monday, while, further inland, Fredericton is expected to top out at 29C. The tendency recently has been to exceed the expected daily high temperatures, so, Freddy could indeed hit 30C on Monday.

Currently sunny and 14 at just before noon. Highs near 16 this afternoon, as clouds roll in. Looks like we have a few more 20 degree days in the forecast for next week.

I'm not sure if it's because of the unusually hot and dry summer we had, but I've noticed that the maples, which normally turn yellow in the fall, are instead showing a lot more red and deep orange this year. It's really nice. Even the mature red maple in my back yard, which typically just turns a bright yellow, is much more red/orange this year so far.

Perhaps the most beautiful colors in St. John's are those of autumn.

There is not much in the way of fall colours in Vancouver yet, but there are some outliers.
Today was cloudy with a high of about 16°C

25C with a humidex of 28 and sunny. Perfection!

Low of 15C this morning. Very confortable sleep with windows open.

The warmspot was Sarnia, ON at 30.8C.

Warmest low was Fort Frances, ON at 19.3C.
Notesworthy they were about 1-2 hours from setting the all-time Canadian highest minimum for October. Preliminary low was 21.5C. But it cooled just enough this evening.

Windsor's October 2007 heat remains unmatched so far.

4 consecutive 30C days (Oct 5-8)
But more crazy, 3 consecutive 20C lows (Ocr 6-8)
Peak on Oct 8 with a high of 31.9C and a low of 21.0C. That' potentially the warmest low ever in Canada during the month of October.

12C and cloudy in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 21C this afternoon.

A cold front is coming through later this week, and there is a real risk that Moncton may fall to the freeze list on Friday morning. The expected low is 0C.

The front however will pass through Ontario and Quebec first, so, it will be interesting to see how many reporting stations fall there first, before the front reached Moncton.
