I didn't follow the team naming, but is there a reason why they didn't go back to Renegades? or think of anything more creative than the "Red Blacks"?

I could be wrong, but I think "Renegades" name might have still been owned by the previous ownership group headed by Bernie Glieberman? I vaguely remember him wanting a bucket of money for the rights to the name.

I think when the current ownership group emerged they may have wanted to go back to "Rough Riders" but our green brothers out west opposed the idea. I think "Red Blacks" was supposed to have the same cachet as the New Zealand "All Blacks" rugby team. IMO "Red Blacks" was a poor choice that hasn't aged well.

Of all the changes I think the biggest that is going to have a long term negative impact is shortening the field by 20 yards. That significantly worsens a big chuck of seats at Prince Auto Stadium and could impact Mossaic and Hamilton as well as all three have fairly new stadiums. The impact will be less in Montreal where they could not fit in a full field but will still be felt there too.

As for the statistician running numbers trying to claim it would increase scoring is laughable. Teams know that the end of the field is the last stand and go all-in on effort to make those stops. Trying to say that anything that got to the 10 yard line in the current system is a touchdown in the new one is nothing other that disingenuous.

The automatic play clock would be interesting but the challenge I see is lots of those longer stoppages that are currently in the game are coming from the tv broadcast side to insert commercials. If you are ever at a Bomber game every time the red shirt is on the field that is a tv production pause.

Moving the goal posts to the end of the field feels like an obvious one but the end zones didn't need to otherwise change for that to happen.

I've had Bomber season tickets for 15 years and these changes significantly negatively impact me. Right now it is wait and see and talk to the Bombers on what their plans are to try and make it right. Without significant adjustments from the Bombers it is likely they will not just lose me but a significant number of season ticket holders and there is not going to be a quick fix to the stadium on this one. That's why keeping the field length as-is may end up being the change that doesn't happen out of this proposal.

I agree with this. Sure, move the goal posts to the end of the field, but don't shorten the endzone. Trying to run multiple routes in that tiny little place will not increase scoring. It just gives the defence smaller zones to cover.

When you lay it out like this, it really shows how much space they're giving up for running routes. What is this? an End Zone for Ants?

Don't forget, that is just the overall field size. More to show how far away those endzone seats will now be away from the play. The enzones are only losing 5 yards so they will still be pretty large.

Maybe this will show it better

Maybe they'll do some renos and add additional seats to the end zones now that they're capped off.

They should put a spa with hot tubs at one end and a massive rum hut with bar tables at the other end.

All the dudes that end up shirtless by the 3rd quarter after their 7th beer will be lining up thinking it'll impress everyone around them. Thermea could make bank.

Why would they do that? If anything, it should be temporary bleachers so that when Valour FC plays (for however long they remain in the CPL), the field would be ready for them to play on the field-turned-pitch.

Regulation soccer fields are 110 to 120 yards long. Even on a shorter field it’s plenty long enough.

The lambo leaps will need to run extra far now. Like waiting for your date at the top of an escalator, kind of awkward lmao.

I’m sure that they’ll adjust the end zone seating to reflect the change.

If they were to extend the stands or reconstruct the stands to bring them closer to the field of play, that would likely cost tens of millions of dollars. Construction ain't cheap. You would have to realign the corner seats as well so I'm guessing you would have to redesign 20 sections or so. Who would pay for that?

My guess is they just plop some seats on the field...maybe some small tent pavilions like they had in the south end of Canad Inns Stadium back in the day, almost like temporary mini suites. At the other end of the stadium, they can just create an extension of the Rum Hut at field level for another 500 - 1000 people.

Probably just do field level stuff. Maybe they could smooth out the funky corners a bit in the first few rows. Fill those in. Otherwise ya it'd be cost prohibitive do anything else major with the end zone stands.

Too me the smartest thing would be to build some field level boxes in the south end zone similar to what you see in the NFL

and then do some field level party section as a continuation of the Rum Hut in the north endzone.

That being said,

What a statement game by our boys in blue. Collaros looked good. Oliveria looked good. O-Line looked good. If the last few seasons are any indication, as long as we can stay in this gear and play that clean, Post-Season chances are looking good. Keep protecting Collaros and if he keeps making good decisions, we're looking competitive.
