I live .5km from the train tracks in the river valley and I hear them all the time. The valley amplifies them a bit for sure, but freight trains aren't quiet to begin with.

Drone view looking north from around the south end of Barrington in Halifax. I counted about 15 cranes.

You can see the cranes for The Meridian on Hollis St at the far right and then the yellow crane by the park is for the Elmwood Hotel redevelopment. The park (Peace and Friendship Park, formerly Cornwallis Park) has 3 developments around the perimeter so it'll feel quite different soon. The biggest potential development sites around here are the suburban-style grocery stores though, like the Superstore in the foreground. It was hailed as "revitalizing" the area in the 90's. It's very practical and convenient, but not very good land use these days.

Pretty sure that condos can be purchased by people of any ethnicity and aren't intended for a specific ethnic group. But of course I understand that rhetorically if one wants to make something sound negative, associating it with an "other" aka, making it seem like it's only for someone else, is a good way to do it. Anti-development activists have been using that trick for years but it's usually in the form of "the rich."

But we all agree that more needs to be done to ensure the dignity and prosperity of the Indigenous community.

The funny thing is I never really noticed the train sounds when I lived in Downtown Calgary. I noticed the sound a lot when i first moved there, but quickly tuned the sounds out. I notice them more now after moving to the north hill of Calgary. The sound echoes up toward Nose Hill. I can hear the trains from that far away lol.

Maybe instead of generically acknowledging land taken from various ethnocultural groups by various others, one should acknowledge how much stolen land one personally owns (in surface area and assessed dollars).

For example, instead of apologizing on behalf of nobody in particular, a BC provincial minister would admit to owning 10 acres of unceded Coast Salish territory worth $12M.

The crane is being removed this week. They're climbing the crane down until they get to a point where they can get it with a mobile crane. Today they removed four sections by the looks of it.

This is also visible from the ground in Elmira if you know where to look, so presumably you can see this from apartment buildings in Guelph.

I can confirm that this building (and Kitchener in general) can be seen from my Guelph condo (sorry for the quality, I don't have my camera with me so phone it was...). Plus smog...
