Found this from about five years ago. I recalled the idea being around for a while. Obviously, this isn't a current rendering or anything (see link), but the location is the same, I think.

It would be a big swing and a miss if the hotel is not orientated with amazing views of the entire track. I hope that they don't copy paste from this rendering.

RIDA has some nice hotels in their portfolio so hopefully they will take that in to consideration. Glad COTA had to wait five years cause that render is awful.

Layout looked similar to the Kalahari hotel/waterpark/convention center in Round Rock (which opened about a year after this rendering was published). Sans the African theme...

COTA filed a PUD amendment request today to add a golf course. IT looks like it will be located off of McAngus RD:

My 25 acres of open land (good for hay production or another industrial distribution center) is just out of the picture where McAngus ends to the left side (west).
Am considering having an acquaintance list it @ $7 or $7.50 sq/ft.based on nearby comps.

Are you willing to sell 10sqft? It would need to have frontage on a public road.

That application also introduces more information regarding the resort/hotel, waterpark, art installations, and walking trails.

It seems kinda landlocked to me and more carnivalish than theme park which I think they hope to be. Not sure if this will be a destination place or more of a playground for locals and weekend race fans. Compared to real theme parks like 6 Flags, this might just end up being COTA Bland.

I kinda like the compact look personally, as long as they can expand, which they should be able to on the other side of that road. They have a pedestrian crossing along with the Palindrome coaster cross over, I would assume they can just continue expanding on that side.

Of course now they say they may not be able to open in time for F1, why am I not suprised

It's a long walk from end to end. Definitely a playground rather than a destination spot year round

Agreed. It is, and feels like, an afterthought to the track, of course. Most theme parks have a lot of very specific design and layout to them architecturally to enhance the guest experience. I watched a documentary on this and have studied up on Disney in particular from a customer experience standpoint - it's pretty fascinating how they blend the entertainment and psychology into their aesthetics. This obviously isn't intending to be Six Flags or Disney, but it's a far cry from even considering any of that.

Technically they can also get rid of some of the acres of surface parking.[B]
They seem to be trying to Really diversify their assets right now in different directions. Hopefully once they can sustain a profit as is with the basic rides and then they continue to add the cooler concept rides that cost way more in R&D. Once the convention center, hotels, music venue, golf course etc (missing anything else? lol) get built if ever that can help justify some added development funding for what we all envision here

There are already plans to expand more along the other side of the road and pond. I have been following this project closely. Many high-quality major rides are being installed, with a significant focus on the details. I am confident this will develop into something great for the community. Once all the work is complete, this will not feel like a carnival at all. They are in talks with a few major rollercoaster manufacturers to develop another major ride on the site, and they plan to add another water attraction.

I am covering the project but i don't know the rules on self-promotion here.

If you have info, feel free to post it. I don't ever recall someone connected to a project running afowl of forum rules for sharing info. The only issues I have seen - and these are rare - is when someone promotes their business that doesn't have much or anything to do with a forum discussion. Those posts typically get deleted as spam.

Yeah, it'll work out long term. Our hope has to be a daily business case that can justify a cap metro bus route. Once we have that, maybe we can convince the city bond voters to build bus only lanes from the airport to COTA. I don't think they will give up any existing ROW from private autos. But a bus only lane for charter buses and cap metro would be transformative for COTA. I avoid going there like the plague bc that bumper to bumper traffic is just too much.

Such public transit infrastructure is not necessary for the public to fund. If COTA wants to privately commit funding to such a project, by all means let them. As a taxpayer, I don’t want my own money spent on a public transit project of dubious and negligible public benefit.
