Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader emphasised the need for a dedicated land bank to support tourism projects. “Investors require ready-to-use land. They cannot afford delays caused by prolonged acquisition processes. A designated authority, similar to the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), should acquire both government and private land specifically for tourism purposes,” Khader stated.

Tourism and recreation potential

Out of 950 acres JESCO land 159.03 acres goes to Indian Coast Guard Academy & a few more might have been already uised for other purposes. How much land is left out now? Mangaluru to get two new parks at an estimated cost of Rs 4.50 crore

The proposed parks will come up at Kallakanda near the Kadri skating rink. Under the AMRUT scheme, the Kallakanda park will be developed at a cost of Rs 2 crore, while the open space near the Kadri skating rink will be upgraded at a cost of Rs 2.50 crore. A detailed project report has been submitted and the proposal has been sent for technical approval before inviting tenders.

... A future plan also proposes constructing an underpass connecting Kadri Park to the new park for easy access.

Mangaluru’s new riverfront air promenade set to open by December-end

The plan aims to transform the stretch from the Netravathi Bridge to Bolara—around 2.1 km of riverbank—into a vibrant recreational zone. The eco-friendly project includes parks, cycling tracks, walking paths, food kiosks, landscaped gardens and nature-friendly attractions to draw both residents and tourists.

So far, work on about 400 metres of the riverfront has been completed in park-like style. Another 200 metres is nearing completion, after which remaining areas will be taken up. Officials said the waterfront is being developed to support activities like air promenades and leisure hangouts.

What has been completed

Existing trees have been preserved while new saplings are being planted. A walking path, bird-watching zone, and a treehouse are already in place. A lighthouse-inspired water tank has been built. Outdoor art galleries, small performance stages, open-air gyms, children’s play areas and a food court have also been set up.
In the upcoming 200-metre stretch, an indoor gym, library and shops are planned.
