Interestingly, the most lux hotel now (also in the skyline) is a modern design with classical materials (waterfront middle below).

I think the older, grander, more whimsical hotels were built by Canadian Pacific and they didn't have any operations in Halifax until they acquired the Dominion Atlantic Railway. Dominion Atlantic remained somewhat independent and built the Lord Nelson.

They are nice and they're imposing historic buildings in person but don't really fit the bill of what one might imagine for a showcase regional-level hotel at the eastern terminus of the railway.

Another factor is Halifax had a few older hotels built by steamship companies that were competitors. None of them survived. There was also the comparatively modest King Edward Hotel, built for the Intercolonial railway, that was destroyed in the explosion.

The big parking lot on the center left was to be the location of the Phare project.

The tunnel being built under Boulevard Laurier will allow buses from STL (Lévis' transport authority) to bypass traffic as they exit the Pierre Laporte bridge.

Night time paving on East Main Street in Moncton.

They have been doing major infrastructure work on this part of Main Street all friggin summer, causing traffic chaos. Thankfully it's almost done. They have been using the vacant lot next to the Staples for a staging area for this work. Now they are almost done, I expect work to begin shortly on the 30 storey Infinity Tower which will occupy that particular lot - a new tallest building for NB.

Kitchener and Waterloo is Canada’s most odd looking city / skyline IMO. Not that the growth hasn’t been good and it’s great that they have a rail system. Halifax, Victoria, and especially Winnipeg should take note on that last part.

Gotta give Waterloo region credit. They built a streetcar line much more affordably than almost all North American cities have in the current era (Kansas City among others have bucked that bloated budget status quo). Now if only the ION 17km extension to central/downtown Cambridge would get greenlit and shovels in the ground.

Meanwhile, in Hamilton the LRT project (initial planning started in 2007!) hasn't even laid down a single piece of track yet.

evidently the rail tracks discourage investment in that part of downtown. Perhaps they could be built over, or trenched. London has a similar issue, in two parts of downtown as the CP and CNR tracks are about 1 to 1.5 kms apart.

CP tracks are still a major scar in downtown Calgary, mostly just gravel parking lots along it. Some new developments are going up right against them though, curious how loud the tracks are and how much they shake the buildings lol

I've lived beside train tracks before and never found them loud at all. The only noise that I experienced was from the trains passing over them.
